Haha, Goody was asked if a hard training load was a reason for last week's performance.

It might be sensitive for Angus but the club could make Gus our Concussion Ambassador. Spread the health and research efforts not only that he is already aware of but promote other activities.

There are more comprehensive testing and assessing tools that are being introduced and Gus could be involved in highlighting these. Start with our club and force the AFL to join this initiative.

Promote his situation at our home games and let us all celebrate and recognise his personal knowledge. He can then as a former player have a greater credibility as an influencer to other players and clubs.

This is a great initiative and could be so beneficial for all, except for one thing… Gussy’s still struggling to come to terms with the heartbreaking fact that he’ll never play again. It’s for this reason he’s decided to forgo the role the Club gave him ie. being present at training sessions and on the bench for GameDay. By all accounts he finds it too difficult to be part of something he loves but of which he’s been denied… playing footy. 😢

. .. is he has patches of brilliance.. and like a light bulbs

More like patch of brilliance. I don't deny the fact that he is a very gifted footballer.

But this year apart from a great game against the cats he has been a complete liability. It's like playing a man down up fwd. The problem is he is so devoid of confidence that he's made some critical errors playing down back the few times he has been there.

He definitely needs to go back to Casey and regain some form.

I'm not sure we can even trade him now for much at all.

But since we have very few players in reserve including the likes of Fullerton, Schache and McAdam who is being gifted games, we are really stuck for options and our ability to drop players who don't perform.

I'm not sure exactly when and what happened but this club which has previously been very adroit in recruiting and picking potential potential, has found itself collecting players other clubs don't want and letting some good players go.

Years of building a great list that secured a flag for us has now seemed to have unravelled to where we are today

A list that is now starting to show age and injuries. I feel that last year was our last true shot at another cup. But alas a shocker of injuries and the club failing to have more fwd opportunities saw our chances evaporate. So it while injuries played their role last year, it shouldn't have been unexpected that aging players like Bbb, Tmac and others would  have problems.

The club ignored these and didn't recruit properly. And here we still are, with no forward line.

Alas it happens. Clubs rise and fall. And now we are pretty much like the bulldogs.

We almost had two flags. The Maynard act didn't help.

Maybe our list wasn't as great as we thought it was.

Yes we had a great midfield and backline but not enough goal kicking power after 21.

Now we just have a strong backline with a midfield seemingly struggling.

Hopefully we can rebuild again but I just hope it's nowhere near another half century before we see more success.

An interesting interview with some good questions - a couple of which goody did the classic politician strategy of answering without actually addressing the substantive part of the question.

I always find those examples interesting for what the subtext might be.

By the by, it annoys me when media people ask a question with muriple elements, or ask several questions at once.

It allows the interviewee to cherry pick which element or question they want to answer - and more significantly the which ones they want to ignore (although that choicr can be instructive).

Certainly understand that.  It would only be done with and when Gus could agree (why I used sensitive reference).

I really feel for Gus and still have difficulty even talking to Collingwood supporters who are almost always condescending in their comments and fall back to, its a football act and there was no penalty. Christ the penalty to Gus is total.

Channelling loss grief into another topic can ameliorate the grief.

I wonder how far off Kynan Brown would be, with the idea to play him as a very defensively minded forward.

A speedy terrier running around, harrassing the hell out of the opposition, might be just the sort of spark we need.

He might even be there to do the job for three-quarters, with the hope that we wouldn't have other injuries and could sub him out. I dunno. Just a thought.

The only thing that will make me feel remotely better.

You are destined to continue being not better. When it happened only one player remonstrated with him. We don't do that stuff, mores the worst. Push overs.

It's called answering the question they wanted you to ask.

There will be 25- 26 players named tonight. Let's hope Petty isn't one of them. With him we go in with 17 players contributing on the field.

Last week was a shocker. I haven't seen the whole team play with that level of effort since the infamous Geelong debacle. That week we lost the coach and were then blessed with the X pies disaster. Interesting that Inspite of only winning two games this year the tigers play with a lot more enthusiasm than us over the last month. Perhaps the loss  of our assistant coach is having a larger affect than we imagined.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
