Our midfield can’t get even run with the ball to turn it over half the time and our backline could do with less turnovers.

So I’m not sure why moving Rivers because his kicking is bad would be a ‘BIG NO’. 

 

Rivers has gone backwards unfortunately. Last year he was looking like our next gun :(

    With the HTB reset I think it might be a time to go back to basics. With the changes in just a week our midfielders going back to high stoppage lots of tackles might be an advantage.

     

    A loss against what will be the filths second side will be just as painful as today. Get ready people.

    We have to stop blaming our key forwards for not getting a kick.

    We’ve tried half the list and it’s abundantly clear no one can get a kick as a tall in this team.

    -42 in CPs, -25 clearances, -31 inside 50s. 

    I haven’t seen the game but that stat line tells me that it isn’t the tall forwards who are the primary problem.

    To blame the forwards is to ignore the real issue. 
    The numbers above are North Melbourne level putrid. You will never win games when the midfield and half backs are dishing up this level of uncompetitive garbage. 
    You could have the best forwards in the entire world, but if they are getting no service, what are they meant to do?

    I’m hoping it’s a bring your mouth guard to training week. I’ve never seen this team under goodwin never have a crack like they did today. Couldn’t stick a tackle to save their life.

    We really need to get back to our DNA of contest first.

    I’ve said this a couple of times (and been laughed at) but I’ll say it again. Switch Steven May to the forward line for at least next week. Oppose him to May-f’ing-nard. Love to see that scrap. But I also think May, along with JVR, will give us some grunt and fire that our forward line is desperately missing. Petty takes May spot in the backline - he ain’t no forward. 
    I would like Oliver taken away from the midfield because he is still broken and unfit, and compared to the old Clarry, is just a faded shadow of his former self. I’d put him in the forward pocket (in place of McAdam) till he gets his mojo back. Kossie and, last week, ANB seem to be the only mids making an effort to clear the ball at centre clearances, apart from Tracc. Viney has gone back to his old bulldog ways - possibly because Oliver and Sparrow have not played their part at centre bounces. Gawn also must improve his tap outs - he was superb against the Saints in terms of hitting to our players advantage - but generally his tap work this year has not been up to standard. So for what it’s worth here is my side for next week:

    McVee, Petty, Tomlinson

    Bowey, TMac, Rivers

    Langdon, Tracc, ANB

    Salem, May, Fritsch

    Oliver, JVR, Jefferson

    Gawn, Viney, Pickett

    Chandler, Turner, Woewoden, Windsor

    Sub: Sparrow.

    And I believe it’s time to get a new skills coach - hitting targets by hand and foot - as we are embarrassingly poor in these areas. The turnovers today through these basic skill errors killed us.

    Rivers has never been in the midfield for more than a quarter. (With reasonable success.)

    That’s a bit harsh, he’s one of our hardest runners and crazy brave.

    He earns every one of his dollars.

    I was howled down after the flag for saying this is probably all he is.

    But the thing is I think he can still improve and can certainly get back in form, but he’ll do it with 30+ touches at Casey. That’s how you build a player back in to touch.

    Whether we can do it this week or not depends on the strength of the rest of the players available, but generally a freshen up at Casey to work on his skills would have him better for it.

Goodwin has always refused to rest our midfield stars and it's starting to tell.Numerous times Dunstan should have been selected but never was. Harmes and Jordon good depth. Just let them go. Don't let me get started on Grundy. 

    I don't mean to knock the kid, but the decision to draft kentfield is bizarre. I just don't get it

      Round 11, the second week of The Sir Doug Nicholls Round, kicks off on Thursday night with the Cats hosting the Bulldogs at Kardinia Park. Geelong will be looking to to continue their decade long dominance over the Bulldogs, while the Dogs aim to take another big scalp as they surge up the ladder. On Friday night it's he Dreamtime at the 'G clash between Essendon and Richmond. The Bombers will want to avoid another embarrassing performance against a lowly side whilst the Tigers will be keen to avenge a disappointing loss to the Kangaroos. Saturday footy kicks off as the Blues face the Giants in a pivotal clash for both clubs. Carlton need to turn around their up and down season while GWS will be eager to bounce back and reassert themselves as a September threat. At twilight sees the Hawks taking on the Lions at the G. Hawthorn need to cement themselves in the Top 4 but they’ll need to be at their best to challenge a Brisbane side eager to respond after last week’s crushing loss to the Dees on their home turf. The first of the Saturday night double headers opens with North Melbourne up against the high-flying Magpies. The Roos will need a near-perfect performance to trouble a Collingwood side sitting atop the ladder.

Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

      The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
