interesting about what it reveals about the psyche of the football culture on the players. he felt compelled to adhere to what he though was the culture of footy, the hard-man approach, showing that the culture is not necessarily perpetuated by the players, but is more of an imaginary being.

he's one we all forgot on the 'no superstars' thread

[good story. He could have been anything but probably not quite a Wayne Carey.

Unfortunately his commentary is so ordinary I switch him off. has opinons on a lot of issues he knows absolutely nothing about. liked him as a player but annoying now.

In fact after reading I was going to congratulate David on confronting alot of those issues that have sometimes compromised his best interests in the past. I am further happy for him on the birth of his daughter.

The article gave me great satisfaction about a guy who is one of the few that has truly excited me with their arrival at MFC. I am glad he seems to be finding his feet and for what is doing he should congratulated.

The others players were Flower, Wells, Jakovich and Farmer. But Schwartz was special when he arrived. The article talked of that sense of self belief. He had that when he started but it was marred by actions in his youth that would plague him. he was just starting to accept what it took for AFL and developed the hunger in 1994. then it happended. And like others I will never know just how good he would have been had he not done his knee.

I have been aware of the terrible situation that he has had to deal with and carry for so many years being the death of his father. God knows what a young boy has had to carry with him and express in sometimes volatile and difficult behaviour.

I wish him all the best in his progress on that and with his future and his family. Its been a rocky road and he deserves better than issues that were forced upon him as a child.

Good on him.

Actually when I think now about what he has been through as a child and then footballer it is a testament to his resilience that he has turned out a normal and productive bloke.

Well done Ox and his missus who seems to be great support for him.

I remember back when the club was deciding who would be the next captain after Lyon and it was between Schwartz and Neitz, I was more involved with the club back then with player sponsorships so I had some pretty good insights into what was happening behind the scenes. The thing which amazed me the most was the group's attitude towards Schwarter, basically the feeling was that they would play for Neita but they'd die for The Ox.

I still believe to this day that he would have made a great captain and the club let something very special slip.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
