Yeah it would be tremendous…..

Speaking of Jordon, has there been a player in recent years to leave the Dees and play about 300% better at his next club the following year?

We ought to be all disappointed that Jordon isn’t with us anymore as he’d have a role on the oppo’s best mid. Disappointed for us, not for him,

300% better?

He’s averaging 16.7 disposals (up 3 on last year with us), 3.7 marks (up 1), 4.2 tackles (up 2), and 4.9 score involvements (up 1). But from 25% more TOG than he was getting last year.

He’s playing better, but not by anywhere near that much. And if he and we had known Gus wasn’t going to be play this year, he may well still be here.

Imagine Grundy & Jordan winning a flag

Grundy looks pretty good. But outside the ruck contest he is non existent.

Jordy would have been good as a cooler on the opponent teams #1 midfielder. Unfortunately Goody doesn’t believe in a tag.

Still find it hard to swallow that Goodwin preferred Hunter to Jordon

Cannot remember the 60’s

MT64 might, but we were a rough enough lot in the 70’s

Sure do. Heaps of fun. Set up one year in the G then we all raced up to the Southern Cross to see the beatles. So many more stories.

The Melbourne cheer squad used to sit on the wing in the southern stand in the old days....

I think you mean the Northern stand. In the 60's we were behind the Richmond end goals.

Cheer squads were very fit also. It was hard work waving those massive floggers.

Don't forget lugging the banners to and from the ground. Lived along side the railway line and after a wet Saturday would hang the banners on the railway wire fence. Lot's of toots from the train drivers. If we didn't sleep over on Friday night we always caught the 5am train. They always waited for us while we got the banners & huge bags of cut up paper on board. We were young and fit then. Haha

G’day Mal. I caught up with you at the B&F a few years back. You wee with Rose.

Friday nights spent tearing up phone books and Saturday mornings raiding every toilet block within a mile of Yarra park stealing toilet rolls. I don’t miss those days one iota. It was freezing cold. 😀

And don't forget the streamers we used to throw...

As well as machine & toilet rolls. Embarrased to say, one match cheer squad members emptied many toilets of paper to be thrown up. Was asked to a meeting with Jim Cardwell after that one. Never again.

I was in charge of the ‘Never say Die Demons’ banner one year. I lived 17 train stops from the MCG. Not an easy task for a 13 year old.

Yes plus a spillover secondary cheer squad who sat roughly between the pocket and flank at the Punt Rd end (northern stand side) with floggers if i recall correctly.

We still had a pretty big squad back then as it wasn't that long since the glory years of the late 50s and '64'.

There were regular banners slung over the fence inc..."Home of the Mighty Demons ...Masters of the MCG" or something to that effect.

Streamers a plenty being thrown.

Throwing them from the southern stand over the balcony after a goal was the best.

Confetti was also thrown in the form of bags of cut up newspapers.

The poor cleaners and grounds staff in those days.  Imagine trying to clean all that crappola up.  Especially if it rained!

Pretty certain by choice WC.

That banner was painted using a reversal vacuum cleaner at a mates place. Some of it stayed on the footpath and his Dad was not happy.  One year playing Essendon we has so much paper that four days later the wing on their dung heap was still covered and their players were running through the mess bending down to scoop handfulls up. Picture was printed in the Herald Sun. Boy we laughed hard with that one.

How can The AFL allow incorrect disposal to go on, just because the player has made any sort of attempt to get rid of the ball😡

I would love to know who the person is, who signed off on this abomination.

there are 3 ways to get rid of the ball

Kick, hand pass with a clenched fist or a Tap on

That is it, anything else is not Australian Football…

Bit hard nowadays when your opponent is holding the ball will both hands to you your body and six guys on top or around you.

Yes the late john Hartmann was the pres after Mal. ( don’t think there was anyone else) 3 or 4 rows on the first level middle of the wing

A Crows win at the G v the pies would round out a perfect set of results to start the round. It would be even better if the pies cop a beating same as the Cats and Carlton.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
