Casey this year with lack of experienced midfielders is probably no the easiest situation for him at the moment. 

Jason Taylor doesn’t miss that much, but Darcy Wilson for the saints who went a few picks later than Kolt looks a special player. 

Hopefully we start to see him have a bit more impact and can push again for selection soon

Boy George, played and moved like Austin Wonemaeamirri yesterday, similar build and style of play, but looks a definate UPGRADE!

Agree George looked a reasonable prospect on a very small sample size

Our only forward that really looked dangerous 

Our depth is really being tested at Casey and it’s fair to say that there were quite a few running about that are not really up the standard

Definitely no coincidence. My point was about his development. At AFL level he would need to be able to compete in 2v2 and 1v2 (outnumbered) contests and he needs to prove he can play alongside other big forwards. He is not going to take Fritsch's role in the AFL any time soon.

2020 was covid and list shrinkage, no surprises that wasn’t a great time. 

2021 due to McVee has become a strong crop with JVR, Howes (who’s the other close to locking up a spot), Woey and even AMW.

The poor opposition scouting to not find any mature players who could really help us and the burning of 2nd round picks bother me more than some picks not working out. JT was never going to be near perfect forever. 

Watching Casey yesterday it's glaringly obvious that the non-AFL listed players are mostly below standard.

The Casey midfield was absolutely monstered yesterday, no surprise given there are 0 genuine AFL level inside mids in the side. That is not meant to be offence to K Brown or Tholstrup, but it is their first season, and neither is at the level yet.

The other issues we have is:

1. Brayshaw retired right at the start of the season, so we were already 1 player down, so one less player at Casey.

2. Joel Smith is current unavailable so that is a 2nd player we are down on the list, and 2 players down on Casey.

3. We've had quite a few early season injuries to deal with and fixturing is shocking, so have consistently had to play with less AFL listed players than we would like.

We want to make sure Casey is as competitive as possible so I hope we go and get the best inside mid we can find at the mid-season draft to help with that. Obviously, a backup ruck is also a worry, but I don't think there are many AFL standard rucks available so we may just have to risk it this season.

Appreciate it. Yes I had forgotten about the " colt". I thought he was ok in his debut. I don't get to watch the Casey games but I'm grateful for the reports. 

Im guessing Verrall is possibly a future replacement for Max. I dread the day Max retires. Good to hear he's doing ok.

From the sounds of it Sestan is the only other real prospect. I will follow his progress as much as one can through the summaries provided here.

I really don't think we have a great deal of depth but what we do have is pretty good quality.Im hoping we will be able to find a like for like replacement for Gus asap but I'm sure that won't be easy given his skill set. And maybe a good result with the other out who I won't name so as not to antagonize anyone.

I also totally forgot about our premiership player in Spargo which saddens me because he has been a start up player for so long and a wonderful contributor. My absolute apologies for this error. Get back soon Spartacus. Even as a sub I'd love to see that sneaky goal sneak coming on booting three goals every week.

Pardon my ignorance but because of the absence of Brayshaw and Smith are we eligible for two picks in the MSD? I really hope so. Depth is a worry and developing players desperately need a more competitive Casey.

I grew up in St Kilda East and was a big soft drink afficiando. Especially collecting bottles for refunds to buy the footy cards and included gum ( which was [censored]).

I'm guessing by your name your of the same vintage.

What a time the 70 s were for kids to grow up.

All that freedom to wander the streets without fear of being abducted.

I know it happened but my parents seemed oblivious to it all.

Probably to0 busy eating fondue at key parties to worry where there previous children were.

Some lucky kids next door had a crate of soft drinks delivered every week or so. Not your classics like coke and Fanta but some generic version I wish I could remember. They seemed so rich to me. They also were the first people on the street to have a colour tv. What a mind blower that was. Like dropping acid. I guess.

I could go on forever about stuff like footy cards, Sandman cars, yo yos, soft drink, mad magazines, girly mags and 60 cent packs of Marlboros. Mind you we used to just pilfer them from our benevolent Balaclava newsagency employer. We got six bucks a week payment for our six day a week am paper round in the freezing cold so we justified as an unsaid bonus.

The best memory regarding footy cards was flocking them up against the school wall to win some more.

As for soft drink, creaming soda was where it was at for me.

A can of that with a sausage roll and a Wagon wheel after school to watch Get Smart. Mel Brooks at his comic best.

Deever, you can learn something every day. Never realised Mel Brooks was a creative force behind Get Smart. Big fan of his movies,  Young Frankenstein, Robin Hood Men in Tights etc. Yeah homework was not a priority afterschool. Bugs Bunny Show was an early favourite, recall seeing Get Smart on early evening TV before the re-runs though which might date me.

Probably a good idea soft drink bottles sizes were much smaller and more of a treat back in the day. Rather than freely available and consumed in copious quantities. Tarax (of course) and Marchants with the inserted screw top stopper were locally available brands. A former neighbour who retired to Daylesford, was an early recycler of the family sized Marchants bottles. The mineral water residue gave the bottles a rusty appearance after continual use. Fanta first manufactured and marketed by Coca-Cola in pre-war Nazi Germany was a favourite tipple. Later oddly Schweppes bitter lemon, must have been the quinine.
 
Paper rounds talk about exploited child labour. Just after the original Southland opened,  a young mate cottoned on to the fact, keys given out with the local weekly rag as part of the prizes promotion, were mostly simple designs. The few that were more complex would open the treasure chests on display at the shopping centre. Apparently the ‘diamonds’ were sorted out from the rust pre-delivery by the paperboy cabal.

Pretty sure 'Loys' were the home delivered crates of soft drink. Loved it! A dozen per week and you got to select the flavours.

I think you might be right. I know it started with L. I was thinking loyds but loys does sound familiar. I think there was a depot in Inkerman st never the train bridge .

I remember pineapple and passionfruit and thinking how upmarket they were. All delivered to your door. I begged my mom to get some but she said it was a waste of money. Pffft.

AMW had a good game imv.  He has developed well and I think he thoroughly deserves a debut shortly.  Good intensity and tackling.  Wins rhe contested footy. 1-2 turnovers but that’s not unlike others including our senior group.  Certainly offers more than Billings or Laurie in my opinion.  
 

Otherwise good chance for some Casey youngsters to get game time.  And for talents like Roy George.  Edwards also looked classy in patches.  

Pretty impressive game from Moniz after the first quarter.

He's always been handy at ground level.  Even in the air, he competes well against taller opponents.

Recovers quickly and pressures / tackles well.

Provides a solid option on the rebound and chains well.

Where he lets himself down is his clangers by foot though.  Particularly through the middle.  Some of them are horror jobs under not alot of pressure and at AFL level the oppo will generally punish on the scoreboard if you turnover in that part of the ground. 

He's doing alot right but i reckon the FD would want to see him clean that side up first.  Too risky otherwise.

He is also being played as a small rebound defender so who is he replacing?  We have Bowey about to come back.  Surely he gets the nod and is well ahead of Moniz preference wise given his prior cred?

Personally if Hunter is playing at Casey i'd rather see him play the Moniz role at times.

Give Moniz some reasonable minutes at CBs and stoppages and see how he goes.  Pushing forward sometimes as well.  Wasted down back and unlikely to get a call up while playing this role at Casey.

Moniz is also a pretty good crumber / goal sneak.  At least when played up forward anyway.  Looks like the FD has other plans though.

I felt Verral was soundly beaten for much of the day by the more experienced Downie.

Won a few contests but his body positioning and ruck craft at times seemed pretty ordinary.

At ground level he faired not much better imv and reaction time pretty slow, even for VFL level.

If he gains possession on the ground he often just panic dump kicks straight ahead or is so slow to get ball to boot or hand his disposals are often smothered or disrupted.

Some of the dump kicks he attempted yesterday had no height on them either and occasionally ended up ricocheting straight back off a player in front.

Has zero athletism but that hasn't stopped others like Darcy from making it.

He might make the grade at some point and patience needed but yesterday wasn't a good outing for the big fella imho.

Think you are being hard on Jefferson. Kicked 3 last week. Like all forwards, I think they need development time.

Thought ex-Tiger, Collier-Dawson was pretty impressive for Willly.
