Missed tackles to lock it forward and simple defensive errors down back.

Probably lost it in the first when they were outplayed with the wind

Too many out. Brown. Hunter. McAdam.  Hunter definitely is an IN this week.

Did you watch the half he played? He was ordinary. Punched the ball straight out scared of contact. More chance he’s injured than in the side for any role but sub and even that would be a kick in the teeth for anyone omitted for him

People seem very surprised that our kids struggle against seasoned VFL players.

Melksham, Spargo, Brown, Hore, Schache, McAdam (2nd quarter), Hunter (half time) and those missing from last year (JJ, Dunstan Harmes, Munro) not being there as senior players around the younger guys unfortunately is detrimental and it shows 🤷🏻‍♂️

Pretty meek effort to finish the game sadly.

Liked that Jefferson got on the end of a few marks as the game opened up and had 5 scoring shots for 3 goals 2. He's got a lot of development to do but the tools are there.

Looking forward to seeing George in action again, looks very clean and dangerous inside 50.

AMW can look amazing and a class above, then makes some horrid decisions and turns the ball over in dangerous spots. Needs to improve this part of his game before he can be considered for senior action.

Suspect Hunter was preserved as a just-in-case emergency with Hore. Surprised if he comes in based off his first half.

Casey looked bad, the young guys all had a good go in key roles.

Wouldn’t want to be this light on every week especially in the middle but it’s better development than sticking the young guys on the flanks whilst the VFL All Stars dominate.

Um did someone say Jeffo no good? Kicked 3 in a losing side, had a direct input into 3 others and should have kicked another, naysayers CGGF🤩

I think what people want to see is a performance like this every now and then to know he has what it takes. As he matures you’d expect consistency to improve, but you need a taste.

JVR was having a huge influence at VFL level in his 2nd year so thats what people try and compare against. The year is still young so if he can start stringing a few of these performances together his confidence will improve and he may just get a crack at the AFL.

We’ve always been dumb and we will continue to be dumb is what that says to me.

BBB hasn’t had a kick since, Billings and Petty lost all confidence, not to mention the Oliver fiasco and Salem tore a hammy 3 seconds in to the Brisbane game.

There’s a good rest after Thursday and we’ve had plenty of rest the last few weeks, so it’s not exactly the same.

Is Fullarton at 100% worse than 80% JVR (he might be, but I’d consider the switch because I doubt it changes the outcome of the game and will protect JVR and possibly Max if Fullarton can hold up in the ruck as well as Petty with fresh legs at CHF).

High performance background DS?

Or, just the kid some praise for what was an impactful performance today. Well done Jeffo!

Jeffo is not comparable to JVR! Different type of players. JVR was playing AFL in his second yearand is now copping flack from some on here for being a poor mark of the ball.

Credit where it’s due.

Agree

It's a difficult balancing act not made easier by the competition make up. Have often wondered if you were a non AFL fringe player who would you prefer to play for. A stand alone club where your selection is on merit or an AFL aligned club where your selection is based mainly on how many injured or hold overs there are in the AFL team.

Enjoyable match today which did many of the AFL youngsters no harm in the development stakes

It is strange as I would have thought that clubs had a big say in the timing of matches. Saturday 11am would have been more logical.

KC ...could you please throw some light on how the VFL listed players train. Do they all attend or only the ones likely to play that week...thanks

KC or someone else should feel free to correct me, but if you mean the players that are not AFL listed, I believe they all turn up to training. Then selections are made based on how many and which listed players are playing for Casey that week, thus the spots that are available.

Tough gig.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
