Injury List: Round 19

Max Gawn — ankle / test

Lachie Hunter — calf / 1 week

Charlie Spargo — Achilles / season

Christian Petracca — spleen / indefinite

Just a broken leg

walk it off Gawny

Only 4 players on the injury list is ridiculous for this time of year.

Unfortunately it's 2 of our best 5 players with one done for the year, but otherwise we are amazingly healthy.

Is he done for the year? Why not say "season", they say "indefinite"...

The quicker we build our fastest on ball contingent this weekend the better'

It will be fine and fast. I am ambivalent about Max back this week and i think our intensity is the answer.

FROM NOW ON.

Finals Trac would be awesome. even 70% Trac playing fwd.

if we look like making finals who knows. but he hasn’t even trained yet right?

so very unlikely

I’m worried that it’s because there are no guarantees of when he will return next year.

a real mfcss sufferer would say "because there are no guarantees he's EVER coming back"

Well I personally think he will come back, but I know people who would tell you it’s a possibility that he won’t.

Matt Jefferson was a late withdrawal from the Casey team last Sunday. Some said it was due to illness and someone else said it was Covid?

Shouldn't he be on this list as a "test" or "available"?

Trac has been awfully absent/quiet on social media lately. ANyone have any insight as to where he is at with recovery? I would have thought he may have showed up to the box on Friday night - perhaps that is unrealistic given what he has gone through (inc his appendicitis)

He's cooking up a storm on his TikTok.

I may be wrong, but I believe he is still in partial isolation given the state of his immune system post the spleen laceration.

Plus he has had his appendix removed what, two weeks ago?

I saw that he liked Melbourne's Instagram post following our win against Essendon.

From someone with experience with appendicitis (mine had perforated) it's a pretty long recovery, I was in bed/resting for about 6 weeks.

When you factor in he is still recovering from internal injuries, I'd say no chance he returns this year, they wouldn't want to risk another hit to the spleen area in 2024 especially given the ongoing narrative about our medical team's handling of Brayshaw and Trac.

I'd had the same thought that it was be great to have him playing deep forward, but to be frank, that's where he got injured and there are plenty more defenders with pointy knees like Moore.

Oh I’m with you re playing this year. However he is a leader and should still be in and around the club.  I’ll admit I’m not sure where he stands from a medical perspective, but the lack of his social media presence online in footy matters is a bit worrying.

Knowing his character I’d expect him to be trolling (in a good way) everything written about MFC online - inc his mates posts etc. But I don’t see a whole lot of activity, which is why I’m a bit worried. It’s not him to be this absent.

At least with the recent performances of our growing 'Mouse Pack' it's becoming a little bit easier to face the various realist and MFCSS-ist 'Life after...' scenarios ahead of us - Max, Jack, Steven, Clayton, Christian, Harrison, etc.

Well, maybe not Max...

Smith and Brayshaw wouldn't stop a 100 point loss to Freo and losing to West Coast.

Our injury list this year has been very good. Injuries like Petracca's and Gawn's are unavoidable, they aren't soft tissue that you could blame on conditioning or overtraining.

Injuries aren't to blame for our performance, nor should we be complaining about our injury list. We've been fortunate, we just haven't had the form, intent or depth of talent to compete for a top 4 spot.

We’re literally 2 kicks from being in the top 4. We had the Blues on toast at the end of that game and we were mighty unfortunate against the Bears

In the Lions game, Stevic took that goal off Rivers for running too far after 13 steps. You never see that and the media said nothing.

May was disallowed two clean marks and one led to a Daniher goal off the ground.

Against Carlton a goal was taken off Kozzie for a staged dangerous tackle by Kemp, where he was actually holding the ball and we played on and goaled.

Either of those 3 incorrect decisions not given and we are in the four atm.

Here is a little test, has any team had more goals overturned than us in the last 2 years.

I have named 2 above and to help, Petracca against Carlton, Nibbler twice and the rest up to whoever wants to research it.

You could add Curnows touched goal by May with replay confirming it just as the ball was being bounced. Pretty sure our last 3 games against Blues we've been dudded by goal reviews

Anyway probably lost in the injury thread lol

Stevic and Gianfagna (delisted) have a particular disliking for MelbourneFC.

I'm guessing you haven't had any/many internal abdominal surgeries. He won't be anywhere near the club until the doctors have given him the all clear.

The risk of infection is real and they'd have him wrapped in cotton wool. Adding to that he's had two general anaesthetics within a couple of weeks of each other.. not recommended. Again from personal experience. Really knocks you around, fatigue, mental clarity etc.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
