Updated Injury List based on Players available for the Dees and Casey

  PLAYER INJURY LENGTH
BROWN Ben.png Ben Brown Knee TBC
HUNTER Lachie.png Lachie Hunter Calf TBC
MCADAM Shane.png Shane McAdam Calf TBC
MELKSHAM Jake.png Jake Melksham ACL TBC
PETTY Harrison.png Harrison Petty Toe TBC
SPARGO Charlie.png Charlie Spargo Achilles TBC
PICKETT Kysaiah.png Kysaiah Pickett Suspension 1 Week
TURNER Daniel.png Daniel Turner Stress Fracture 6-8 Weeks
SMITH Joel.png J. Smith Suspension TBA

Hate to see a list like that shortly before the season starts. Suggests we are behind the eight ball before the commencement of proceedings after a five month layoff.

TBC is such a crumby term. How about some indication for supporters when these boys will or are likely to be available for selection.

I agree mate

TBC basically means the FC is in no rush to announce as they are out for a decent period of time.

Should be concerned with how McAdam has travelled this pre season?

With the reports coming out from Adelaide in regard to his reluctance to take accountability of his rehab.

Just looking at it seems like we are more or less where we were at the end of last season with key outs and that was not a good space to be in.

Based on info gleaned from Demonland (track watchers, linked articles etc) my best guess is something like (taking koz and smith out as they are not injuries - by the by, koz is in ripper nick and right to go round 1. So technically doesn't miss a round. For petts i'm assuming no surgery, but if he has surgery unlikely to add mot than a couple of weeks)

PLAYER INJURY LENGTH
BROWN Ben.png Ben Brown Knee 2-3 weeks
HUNTER Lachie.png Lachie Hunter Calf 1-2 weeks
MCADAM Shane.png Shane McAdam Calf 2-3 weeks
MELKSHAM Jake.png Jake Melksham ACL Round 16
PETTY Harrison.png Harrison Petty Toe 2-3 weeks
SPARGO Charlie.png Charlie Spargo Achilles 1 week
PICKETT Kysaiah.png Kysaiah Pickett Suspension Fit
TURNER Daniel.png Daniel Turner Stress Fracture 6-8 Weeks
SMITH Joel.png J. Smith Suspension TBA

I’ve been told Ben Brown could be available by Round 2 (3rd game).

I was told two different things about Petty. That he will be back in the next few weeks and that his toe/foot is [censored]. Both credible sources.

Take these nuggets with a grain of salt.

Haha You are not spreading unsubstantiated rumours are you Andy?

Is this a Club list or a made up one  by a DLer, adding info that looks like it’s complete guess work as it isn’t in line with info provided from press reports or posts from the Club.

Thanks this looks like a sensible guess of time out for our injured players. Thank you Binman.

Was taking the P

For a bit of perspective, we're far from the only top 8 club with some injuries.

At the pies, Pendulbury and Howes have both had interrupted preseasons and are touch and go round one. Their best forward, mcstay is out for the season with an acl and Krueger did a bad hammy yesterday.

At the swans, Luke Parker has broken his arm and their captain, Callum Mills has a wrecked shoulder he did wrestling on mad Monday (where's the media beat up on that? - i mean getting [censored] and wrecking your shoulder is just boys being boys is it? And hes tbeir captain! Cultural issue i reckon). Both players are huge for them.

They swans are resting Jake Lloyd, Tom Papley, and Chad Warner for their community cup game to ensure they are right to go against us, which suggests all three are not cherry ripe.

he was made skipper AFTER this happened

My mail is Hunter is struggling. So that’s optimistic.

I would presume the opposite, Papley and Warner underdone no way. No underestimating any Swans players under any circumstances.

For those suggesting that we should have traded Petty for McAdams and pick 14, had Petty been fit for finals last year we most likely would have beaten Collingwood and been a good chance for the GF and combined with JVR sort out our key position forwards.  By comparison the value of pick 14 and a future second round pick would net us a young key position player requiring at least 3 years development at VFL to help us in September. Alternatively to bring in a KPF from another club would require approx $1m per annum on a long term deal whereas retaining Petty would probably save us in the order of $200 - 300k per annum.

As for Petty being injury prone, I don't see the evidence for this. He has been fairly durable to date with only minor soft tissue injuries until his recent foot problems and most key position players have periods where they miss games through injury. Having a medium term injury does not make a player injury prone.

Jake Melksham ACL Round 16

I’d be very surprised if (at his age) they aren’t aiming for a 9 month post-surgery return to play. That would make him available end of May/early June, if it’s been smooth rehab, which by all reports it has. Round 11-ish.

Ta.

He might find it hard to get back into the team if Windsor makes the wing his own and billings cements a spot.

That's music to my ears.

He looks very fit, so you imagine he'll hit the ground running.

They improve our disposal and forward connection.

Saw Taj Woewodin entering IKON Park today with Daniel Turner. Woey appeared to have a bit of a limp.

He played and went very well according to the report.

Might be earlier than round 11.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
