The Rookie (A) list should be dropped and just have a list of 42 blokes

Pay them properly, they are part of the squad and some play AFL games

so, we will probably delist smith and go into the draft with

3 senior spots

1 a rookie

1 b rookie

unless we grab another free agent as our 3rd pick is around 83 (round 5)

or we may split pick 9...

according to SEN article yesterday, Smith has already been delisted.

can someone confirm, we have the following available:

- senior list spots - 3 (assuming we stop at 36) - 5 if we go to 38

- Rookie A - 2 - (assuming 36 senior and AMW now Rookie A) - 0 (if we go to 38 senior)

- Rookie B - 2

Great trade period watching other clubs secure ready made talent ! Park pic 9 aside not sure Sharp & Campbell re having huge impacts! Zero fwds  unbelievable!

Sharp is a running half forward on ball half forward flanker with extreme pace and very good tank. Ie a forward Happy ??! Demonsome?
And we have Picks 5 and 9 to use at draft Either a forward ( Armstrong or Tauru) might be selected and a highly regarded mid from a selection of approx. 13 mids from pick 1 to 15. ( some nga or father/ son selections which won’t affect clubs as they will be gained by having the required points available.

We may use pick 83 to get a diamond in the rough.

You will recall Derk W from GWS was approached and not let go. A 195 cm for / back / ruck.

Also our Key forwards are below 24 mostly 22 to 18 very young and are just gaining confidence and only Fritta and Kossie are steady goal kickers with Trac and Chandler adding to the scoreboard regularly.

Our best years are ahead starting now in 2025.

BTW who would you have got via this trade for our list in 2025??

Smith not confirmed by the club yet, but is all but guaranteed, as is Moniz Wakefiled upgraded to rookie 'A'

Here how the list looks with those changes.

I have included the draft picks in the list, but have NOT added their number to List Size totals

The rules changed to allow players to stay Rookies for 5 years if they have played less than 10 career games.

It makes no difference to AMW to remain a B-Rookie but it gives the club the chance to recruit an A-Rookie where the recruitment rules are less strict than for B-Rookies.

AMW remains a B-Rookie which leaves 1 A-Rookie and 1 B-Rookie spot.

Love your work R&B.   Any chance you could put a spot in for all the assistant coaches and roles (if known).   There's been a couple of changes with maybe one more to come.

Great idea!, I wanted to do this myself, but have struggled finding contract lengths for the assistants...

If anyone know this, I will happily put them in the list :)

Ruthless? With Tassie coming in, we have already seen clubs moving on older players and others shown as being not quite up to AFL lists.  Some have been brutal.

Whilst a lot of water to go under the bridge, “on current age and form/performance”, there is potentially a larger turnover ahead.  I do think some guys were lucky to hold onto a list spot.  Maybe it was to keep some stability and also that the Dees were not well placed to attract players.

Looking ahead … to the end of season 2025…potential changes

retirement… McDonald, Melksham

sitting on the edge are …potentially delistings 🔪 would include some of (or all of) … Spargo, Hore, Billings, Laurie, Fullarton, McAdam, Verrall, Sestan, Adams, Kentfield

Maybe an email to the club for the attention of Richardson would bring results knowing that most supporters use the spreadsheet as an overall guide

What's the situation with Noah Yze?  Is he set to be drafted this year?  Because I can't see his name mentioned anywhere and we only have two draft picks, and no spots in rookie A.

We haven't nominated him as a father son as of yet.

I highly doubt we will select him this year because he's form hasn't been up to the level that is worth being drafted.

My inkling is he may suit up for Oakleigh Chargers next year as an overage player.

Cheers for the update. I had a feeling this might be the case.

We have a third pick ND83 which will come in to about 55-65 after academy and f/s bid matches. JT rarely uses picks that late but there may be a smokey he has his eye on.

We also have one A rookie spot.

No idea what that means for Yze jnr.

The AMW situation is confusing. Is it the case we would push him to Rookie A so that we can pre-list both Riak Andrew and Ricky Mentha as Rookie Bs - which assumes they do not get bids in the national draft...

If JT doesn't have a smokey in mind for our late pick, AMW or Hore could go straight to the senior list?

Well, that frees up two rookie spots, potentially one for Noah.

Mid season draftees are rookies. They don’t go on the senior list.

Mentha and Riak Andrew were nominated as NGA’s for us so both can go straight on to the Cat B rookie list if not selected before hand. We didn’t even nominate Yze as a F/S.

Dees have room for 3 senior list additions.  I think Dees will use 5,9 and potentially add 5th round draft pick OR save for a train on player to be added under the SSP.

Me either. Lol.!!

Cal Twomey posted a table on either twitter or instagram which had all the clubs nominations. Someone posted it in one of the threads.

I don't have either app so can't help track down the original source sorry.

Info is correct though.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
