God it would be amazing if they flop again

I'm already sick of hearing the fluff about Carlton's chances. They need a  2019 Melb season now.

Don't jump the gun. They'll get us when Geelong are given the right to host a Preliminary Final against us.😅

Then it’s a good thing we’ll knock ‘em out in a QF 😁

Things we shouldn't be surprised about:

  1. Collingwood get 7 of their last 8 games at the MCG, with the only other game being Sydney in Sydney.
  2. St Kilda get 8 of their last 9 games at Marvel, including their last 6 straight. That is a [censored] disgrace. In a professional sport played home and away, no side should be play that many games straight at their home ground. They get an "away" game at Marvel against Richmond, again. Gillon's left, why do they keep getting KOTD?
  3. Essendon get 10 of their last 11 games in Melbourne, all of which are straight - in other words, they don't travel anywhere, at all, from Round 12 (on 2 June) to Round 24 (at some point at the end of August, nearly three months later). Again, in a professional home and away league, that's bonkers.

Financially devastating.

Our opening home game is at 1pm on a Sunday.

Our next home game is almost a month later, against Brisbane on a Thursday night. Solid 33k in attendance.

Anzac Eve is an away game.

Geelong at the MCG might pull in 50k but depends on how both teams are going.

vs Carlton is an away game.

St Kilda on a Sunday at 3:20 might pull a decent crowd. Maybe 50k.

King's Bday is away.

vs North on a Saturday night. 25k.

vs WC, finally a home game against them. 25k.

vs Essendon, finally a home game at the MCG against them. 60k.

vs GWS. 25K.

vs Port. 30k.

vs Pies. 70k.

Only two of our home games will require reserve seat upgrades for GA members: Essendon and Collingwood.

For the general fan attending games it's great because we have 8 of our 10 MCG home games are against non-MCG tenants.

Financially, the club would surely be livid with this draw. It's a disaster.

80/20......our gate takings each year rise and fall on the Anzac Eve and QB games. We know the seasonality of them.

Bigger picture & longer term thinking - with the amount of night-time games, the brand will get more exposure - if we play well and are decent to watch. Not going to hold my breath on that though

Shoutout to Pres. Kate.
At our W match vs Brisbane 12 days ago she told the DA she was pushing really hard for no trip to Mordor next year. She said she can almost guarantee she gets it. And she did. ️

An ok fixture. 1pm on Sunday to start is strange but ok.

No Geelong game is like the government giving us a tax cut and then jamming it all in elsewhere.

Interstate games (remembering that for everyone except us and Essendon, one of these games is a Gather Round game on neutral territory):

  1. Essendon - 6
  2. Carlton - 6
  3. Collingwood - 6
  4. Hawthorn - 6 (plus four in Launceston, plus Geelong)
  5. North - 6 (plus four in Hobart, plus Geelong)
  6. Bulldogs - 6 (plus Geelong)
  7. Geelong - 7
  8. Richmond - 7 (plus Geelong)
  9. St Kilda - 7 (plus Geelong)
  10. Melbourne - 7 (plus Alice Springs)

tbh there's not much there in terms of financial positives - there's only two 'marquee' home games, against puddy tatts and the peptides

6 of the first 14 are monster TV games.

0 - the first game of the year!

4 - gather round kick off

5 - Thurs v Bris

7 - ANZAC eve

9  - Thurs v Carl

13 - Kings BDAY

Plus the Cats, Saints and maybe Port game on free to air.

Im not sure there will be a team more watched on tv than us in the first 15 weeks. That has to be of huge value to our sponsors.

To only get Dogs, Cats and Saints in the first half of the year is light on for attendances, but the years where we have away games for our blockbusters will probably look like that more often than not.

Maybe we revenue share the Pies game when we have 2? And/or have some kind of split with Richmond.

It certainly would make more sense to split the 2 blockbusters to one home, one away.

Essendon get the bare minimum of 5 away games, but one of them is Gather Round where ticket sales aren't skewed to the home side like they usually are (I think?). Which means they really only have four interstate games all year.

I was feeling upbeat about the fixture until I read that.

How can a club get just 5 trips when there are 8 interstate teams plus Gather round?

I just deleted it because I missed one. They get 6, which remains the minimum along with Carlton and Collingwood.

At least the latter two made prelims this year. How Essendon continues to get the best ride on interstate games is beyond me.

I don't like the Round 1 being our second game idea. Won't be able to matchup rounds played with the corresponding round number anymore.

12 days off for our bye round 14. Better than 10 we had this year but 14/15 would have been nice. Overall I think it’s a good draw for us.

No Friday games in first 15 Rounds but 4 Thursdays. Geez I hope Carlton are [censored].

Sponsors with logo on jumpers will love the Thursday night prime time free to air exposure.

Free to air prime time games are much more commercially valuable than Pay TV prime time.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
