Fancy having to barrack for two interstate teams. But I would just feel so dirty if I went the other way. A Pies/Blues Grand Final will hurt even more because we should have beaten both of them.

Today’s Age headline ‘The 3 Federer-like traits that separate Nick Daicos from the rest’.

GWS really better be ready for his grass court backhand. Such nauseating garbage.

Living o/seas doesnt spare me from  the vile media slops unless i shutdown the internet. Media in a frenzy over jugernaught Carlton  and the great Nick Daicos. I  havent read or looked at any of these countless articles . Lions dont exist, GWS not much better. Pathetic click bait media.

Please GWS and Lions win !!!!

Mr Toby  could tear Collingwood apart on his own.  Should be interesting to see if GWS rough up Maynard. It could be a long night.

Media will be devestated if Pies lose. GOOD.

I really hope they do more than rough up Maynard. Hope the karma bus is revving up for a big night. Don’t mind if it mows down Cox and Howe as well in the process.

I am really annoyed that we dont have a game day thread.  Our own fault, but not happy!

I have no doubt Brayshaw was targeted in the first minute… No doubt at all.
Hoping the same scenario awaits Maynard (and a few others)

Still absolutely furious about that First Final

They all seemed a little prepared with their unified “footy action” nonsense on TV, didn’t they

A sickening love fest isn't it!

The first quarter tonight will be telling. I expect Collingwood will try to rough up the Giants, and get away to a flyer. If that happens, game over. If GWS can stick around, then there could be an upset.

As for Brisbane Carlton, I think Carlton are a chance if their midfield can provide good supply to Curnow. With Payne out, I think it leaves Brisbane a little thin in defence. Although I do think it is bizarre that Carlton omitted 4 players from a winning SF team, that could have a destabilising impact.

Absolutely, Angus caused it all…

Same but I've grown to like the giants and he no longer plays for them. I'm happy to see Jesse playing good football & Toby taking his chances.

Plus they have a great theme song and there social media team are hilarious.

Hopefully it's a big big sound ringing at the end.

I hope it's an all interstate gf.

There is no karma in footy. See: Michael long

I note that two of the umpires from our game against Carlton have been named as emergencies for the Prelims; 32 Mollison and, our mate, 22 Williamson. 21 Meredith and 27 Gianfagna have survived!

See Eddie has called on the Collingwood fans to start there chant when the giants run out to there song.

You can't chant over it's a big big sound. Honestly giants better win. Not putting up with this for another week

I love the Giants style of play

Let's hope they can come out firing and shot those [censored] up early

See Angus has pulled out of going to the Brownlow Monday night.

Anyway I want to see magpie fans crying after the game because they lost.

I had people say to me at work Melbourne should be there tonight if they could have kicked straight. I hope the players are still as annoyed as we are

I saw that today. Pathetic dribble. The media hype for Daicos and the Pies is sickening. The kids a second year AFL player. Comparing him to a global sporting legend is ridiculous and unwarranted.

Hoping the orange team absolutely murders Collingwood tonight. I’m talking soul destroying stuff that sends them to the bottom of the ladder for a decade and causes their supporters to [censored] off and stop attending and ruining football matches. I want to see them cry. Who’s a sook? A plague upon them!

Ha Dane Swan is obviously stuck somewhere interstate because he has just blasted Quantas on social media about a delayed flight and he has a footy game to get to. Hope he has to stay where he is

Just saw 2 giants fans at my train station going into the footy.

I hope all giants fans there tonight get out of the ground and home safely

I didn't think anything would ever top how burnt I was after Round 23 2017.

But seeing Pies supporters in the city today...

I am so filthy.

Oh well.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
