I think 1 more year. Then Max and May will be well beyond their best. Those 2 are nearly impossible to replace.

I agree, we are very bare in the ruck department, and gorilla full backs are hard to find, hopefully our recruiting team are working something behind the scenes in this space, also a speedy midfielder who can hit a target.

Still think we have a top 4 list for at least 2 more years

I think we’ll make finals again in 2024 but we won’t be able to judge us properly until after our first final.

Tune off mate, best decision you can make.

Wait for the off season and draft.

Then here we go again next year...and [censored] off Collingwood, media and AFL House 😎

I'm addicted to barracking for the underdog and seeing great fast footy, like Giants in the 2nd. Will still be around to get my hopes up the Lions will win the flag next week. I need some new hobbies

I love underdog stories too. But the writing is on the wall.

Crook Gil must be drooling about a Collingwood v Carlton GF (🤢🤢🤢).

I saw a compilation of like 8 bad calls from the umpires in the 4th qtr tonight... expected.

Btw, did I see a 'Naicos' (as bad a name as Bruzzy 🤢🤢) dangerous tackle? Can't remember the GWS player but arms were pinned and head hits the ground. All season this sort of actions were reportable and minimum one game suspension... there'll be crickets in the media and from the AFL about it no doubt.

We will be a contender without doubt in 2024. We have the star power still but work to do to get back to the summits

1- sort out forward 50 entries by Mids

2- work out forward line strategy ( new forwards coach) and yeah goalkicking accuracy

3- more aggressive quicker ball movement  strategy, and running and using the corridor

4- better run with injury incl late in the year

5-refresh the list with added players to cover key areas (young running Mids) (McAdam as an opportunist goalkicker) (backup ruck/fwd to support Gawn)

core group without known additions

Key Backs. May️Lever️ Petty* ️Tomlinson Turner Jsmith*

Med/sml backs.  Rivers Bowey Salem Mcvee

mids.  Trac.️Clarry️. JV7️ Gus🙏🏽 Sparrow (Laurie)

Runners. Lingers Hunter (Woey jnr) (Howes)

Key Fwds.  Petty* JVR (Jsmith*)

med/small fwds   Fritsch️ Pickett️ ANB Melksham🙏🏽 Spargo Chandler (AMW)

Rucks Gawn

Is the lack of anything coming from the club "post season" this past week normal.

Thought the same. Dunno what theyd have to say though. Sent the boys on holidays, watch Collingwood win proving there is no karma, come back breathing fire.

What do you want them to do, wallow in self pity, spit the dummy, bag the players an d footy department.

That is left up to a fair percentage of supporters to do as this site shows.

I want them to talk to their 70,000 members. Like they have done every other year.

Our list profile is strong.  We have good young key position players - Petty will be 24 at the start of next season, JVR doesn't turn 21 until mid April, Jefferson will turn 20 in March.  Other than Viney, all of our top midfielders will be 28 or younger at the start of next season and still in the absolute sweet spot. May played out the season well and I remember Brian Lake moved to Hawthorn at the age that May is now and was a key player in three flags! Gawn will continue as the dominant ruck for at least a couple more years.  He doesn't turn 32 until the very end of this year and will be our oldest player (assuming Melksham doesn't come back).  Young players who should continue to improve include McVee, JVR, Sparrow, Bowey, Rivers, Pickett.  If the players are hungry enough, there is more than enough talent to have us competing again next year and the years beyond.

Our B&F is on Friday 6 October - maybe then?  There will be loads of speeches ....

Have you been to our B&F? The speeches are a snooze-fest. Nothing of substance is said. Except from Kate who always starts with a big thanks to the Demon Army 😁

I’m not averse to being served below-average food, lining up for three lifetimes for a drink, being in the vicinity of rude players and enduring hours of red and blue lighting burning my corneas. It’s the forking out of $300 for the privilege of it all that bothers me.

I would have hoped that the Demon Army would get at least one table free of charge given the efforts you put in?

Honestly shocked that some players can be rude to the same people that puts an effort and their hard earned week after week.

At least pretend you like us peasants for a night. Put a fake smile on your face for 3 hours, not so hard.

With some functions we get a small discount if there’s many of us going, but this doesn’t apply to the B&F… the men’s anyways. Tickets for the W B&F are $200 before a discount is applied based on how many of us attend. The girls’ B&F is way better for every reason.

I hear the risk of significant injury is higher at the women’s B&F.

Yes, it is. But only to dimwits who run in platforms while a little drunk. You’d never catch me doing something so dumb.

Exactly my thoughts.

Jake reeks of captaincy material and will be our skipper in 2025 IMO. The recent 4 year contract extension he signed all but confirms that I reckon.

Outside of Max he’s essentially the face of the club with all the media he provides.

i go every year not sure where you are lining up for a drink as drinks get served directly to the table

No, but others are coming quickly. ANd in the next 3-5 years the bottom will be challenging.

We need a gamestyle tweak, i am not sure if it is possible with our list though, we have a bunch of competitors and not fast ball users.

I think we can remain competitive and even challenge again depending on what we do this offseaon, (trading FA and drafting). This off season will be interesting.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
