Michael Hibberd Hanging Up the Boots

Featured Replies

Incredible backline player that hardly ever got beaten 1:1 with blazing speed and a laser beam of a foot.

The image of him running with the cup will live with me forever.ย

Thanks Hibbo, another brilliant player from the Mornington Peninsula nursery of talentย

ย

He came to us when many other players spurned our advances, and was rewarded with a premiership for his faith!

Not only could he see the vision Melbourne had, he was an instrumental part in making it come to fruition.

Thank you Hibbo!

Well played Hibbo. Heart and soul. ย
He had the strategy to curtail guys like Cameron, Elliott and Papley. All faster than Hibbo but he read the play and got into position early to corner or body them out. ย Outstanding.ย

I guess the whole team must be hurting about Gus, and then combined with the emotions of Hibbos news.

Hopefully the boy can use them as motivation to go all in the next 3 weeks.

ohh yep!! 100%

Cheers for your efforts Hibbo, great recruit who played the game in a way I lovedย

No nonsense, team first and reliable never leaving anything out there.

Lets hope thereโ€™s a few more AFL wins to go and all the best to you and your family in the next chapterย

Time to go and do young man things before injuries make him old before his time.ย  Thanks for giving it all you've got, Hibbo/Pig.ย  We'll miss your guts and the glory.

Premiership player 2021

All Australian 2017

113 games for the Dees (197 games in total)ย

MFC life memberย

100% effort every timeย

He played and beat all the forwards he was on. Dusty, Papley, Elliott, Cameron to name a few. He just managed to grab that tackle, or spoil with that fist, or smother or correl, to pressure into his opponent making a mistake.ย

I loved the Melksham farewell at the B&F. ย Such a tribute. ย And Hibboโ€™s response to all his family, to the club and players was very special. ย

He was a highly valued and respected player and teammate.

Farewell good luck Hibbo๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

What are the chances that we can get Hibberd to hang around a bit and be a mentor to the likes of Rivers and McVee?

Sigh, just got a little tweak of sadness; dropped by footywire and it was the first time I'd opened our list and Hibberd wasn't on it.

His non-selection (omitted, not injured) in the Semi Final was just one of the more bizarre and disastrous selection decisions we have ever seen.

A friend ran into Hibbo at the Frankston Powerhouse Fun Day this morning. She was very happy to see him in his team colours. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

He was there with his best mate, Melksy. ๐Ÿฅน

He will fit right in at Port Colts, boy they were a tough bunch and used to love roughing up us Catholic Boys playing for De La. I played against Paul Goss, Buster Harland, skipper and once had a run with job on Gary Sweet, who was an excellent footballer and top bloke!

Who are the Port Melbourne Colts? The Port Melbourne I'm familiar with in the VFL (formerly VFA) have always been known as the "Borough". Is this a different club, and, if so, in what league do they play?

They used to play in the Footscray District / Western Leagues where they had a reputation for being thugs.

I think they now play in the Southern League, which would fit with Hibbo's Peninsula background.

Southern Football League Division 1. Was kind of hoping he would play Mornington Peninsula Football Netball League. Will have to watch him play round 1 at Chelsea Heights ironically against the demons.

ย

I wonder when Hibbo says he wants to play with mates he means Harley Bennell who played there last year?

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demonsโ€™ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.
