Well done Jack and Trac. Would love to see Viney at least get on the bench.

Max gawn not in the squad?

And Jackson is?

Any defenders from the best defence in the league?ย

I mean come on

ย

Hawks, Freo and Essendon with 3 players. Melbourne with 2.ย

Tom Stuart ahead of Lever and May?

FMD what a joke.

Petracca is a lock and itโ€™s good to see Viney get some recognition.
May could consider himself a little stiff to miss the squad but wouldnโ€™t be a realistic chance for the team.

ย

May should have made the squad as a minimum.ย

Not the greatest AA squad Iโ€™ve seen named. Buddy to be the Captain?ย

One of the absolute worst.

Sam Taylor didn't make it?!!!!

Itโ€™s the giggle brothers most liked rather than true best in positions. ย Pies are flavour of the month so get a stack. ย Could easily cut 20 or so from this list.

no Bont? ย Come on! ย This is a joke

Bont is in, you need to press the imbedded image to see the full list.

I love how bottom 8 sides got 3 players in but we couldn't get more than 2. Seems about right.

Max shouldn't be in the AA conversation. But nor should Jackson.

well done Trac and Viney. well deserved.

i'm more concerned with winning the flag to be honest

You know what I like most about our 2023 year? ย The way that pretty much most of our players, all that we do and have done thus far seems to have gone under most commentators and opposition spectators radarsโ€ฆ.. all year long.
I love it. ย The Sydney game in such a hostile environment was absolutely fantastic. ย We are serious contenders. ย Canโ€™t wait for September.

What's the lowest number of AA selections for the team that wins the Premiership?

Melbourne with 2 would be up there I'd say.

I'm confused as only 36 players are in their list of 44 in the squad...?

F4mfa8magAAHUQI.webp

2 players for what is arguably a team finishing 2nd on the ladder.ย

Please, the disrespect that we continue to get from the media is an absolute farce. I hope there are some sore ego's from this and that they'll show the selector's how wrong they were in the coming weeks.ย

Also, what is the love for the bottom sides? Bar a handful of standout performances (Larkey). As a general rule if you are bottom 6, "Thank you, come again (next year)".ย

Im surprised Buckley just didn't name the entire CFC. Quaynor and Nick Daicos are the only ones deserving of the AA.ย

Edited by Gawndy the Great

From their list:

B: Quaynor Moore Stewart
HB: Dawson Weitering Sinclair
C: J.Daicos Bontempelli Gulden
HF: D.Martin C.Curnow Breust
F: C.Cameron Larkey T.Greene
R: Marshall Petracca N.Daicos
I: Sicily Butters Neale Liberatore

Shows we are a very even side with team ethos trumping individual brilliance.ย

I hope this makes the boys realise that nobody wants us to win. Thereโ€™s no media story, no romance - just the best system and mindset of any team in the league.

Iโ€™d be annoyed, if I didnโ€™t think it was a sign of just what a good TEAM we are.

So the all Australian Squad has come out and interestingly only Viney and Petracca are in it.ย
ย

Pretty interesting considering weโ€™re 4th on the ladder.ย
ย

I donโ€™t know if others think this is a damning indictment on the squad selection or this means that we have spread the load across all of our players so much that apart from Viney or Tracc, there havenโ€™t been any other glaring standouts.ย
ย

I view this as a good thing in a way.ย
ย

Thoughts?

There's tough competition for him but I hope Nick Larkey gets a jacket. Some effort to kick 71 goals in a team as bad as North were this year.

He actually wins the Coleman if you remove the goals Walker and Curnow kicked against West Coast and North.

He absolutely deserves a jacket.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking. ย We filled our boots with percentage โ€” now a whopping 520.7% โ€” and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourneโ€™s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
