I have heard he is a Muslim, is this true?

In no way would it change my opinion of him (Love/hate relationship, as many Dees supporters have with him) but I wondered if he was because Houli wouldn't be the first Muslim to play AFL.

I think the poor kid Houli and his story has been ridiculously blown up as well, but was just curious about Yze.

Houli is supposed to be the first "devout" Muslim. It's a bit of a blowup.

how bout houli is the first muslim post 9/11, the date that people became "aware" that muslims were different from everyone else.

QFT

Yze is Muslim, but the fact that they are blowing it up that he is a devout Muslim is just stupid. I mean, first Irish player fair enough, or first player from South Africe or Sudan or whatever, but why Muslim? Who cares. As long as the kid plays football. They are making it out like being Muslim and playing AFL is an amazing achievement...like as if it's nothing that could have ever been excepted. Had he debuted 10 years ago, no one would even know who he was.

yeah i do agree it's a beat up, though i think it was helped by him playing the national carnival during Ramadan where he couldn't eat or keep up the fluids otherp layers could, but still performed very well. so they reckon he's got talent. good on him for debuting, obviously playing afl is a brilliant achievement, but yeah don't see the craaaaaazy nature of it.

[in what way are they different, d nox?

they aren't. i was being a bit sarcastic. before the terrorists struck the world in the name of islam no one looked twice at a muslim. now there is focus on them all the time. your average run of the mill muslim is no different from your christian or your atheiest. the corrupt side of things is the same no matter what religion it is. in islam the popular opinion is 'terrorist' for catholicism its the 'pedophile priest'. who cares what religion he is. my point is that no one would have cared before 9/11 we live in a different world now though.

The story is that he is devout. I have muslim mates and they are in no way devout.

Its a story because the commitment devout Muslims make and how he deals with that and his football commitments. They dont just rock up in church on a sunday morning.

But yeah, its a bit of a beat up.

But in being a beat up, it sits well with most of what qualifies as 'football' news these days.

wow, prior opportunity! i thought you'd disappeared!! at least from the footy field anyway

I totally agree with your post there Deanox. These grievences with muslims are getting to much. If a muslim plays well in footy good on him, if it is a catholic good on him, etc. Focus should be on the footy they play, not their religion

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
