POSTGAME: Rd 22 vs Carlton

On the plus side Oliver is only going to be better for the run.

It took a while for the midfield to gel again with him, but once it did we looked better.

The Gawn/Grundy experiment doesn’t work, Jacko was more mobile and could trouble the scorers, JVR needs to second ruck with another forward option for the remainder of the season unfortunately.

Not sure what you were watching Dazzle.  The review was one of the most amature reviews and we're supposed to be watching the game being played at the home of footy!!

Joke fest!

That I'll agree with, but aren't they all?

If we were relying on a score review to win the game then I don't know what to say.

Fumbliest game I’ve seen Melksham play.

Petty would’ve clunked at least a couple tonight and we may have won with Max in the ruck more.

im not too worried though, hurry up fritter!

I'm proud of the boys.

When they got out to an 18 point lead I thought we were done. But, we fought back well and you can't question their endeavour and effort.

Carlton were better on the night, but it doesn't change my opinion that I still think we're genuine contenders still.

The old bomb it long to a pack has recurred.  Can get away with it sometimes when Petty is there, but more importantly he leads and splits the defence.  Nobody seemed to eat and disperse the defenders tonight.

Gee, at the end do you reckon when they've got 18 players in defensive 50 there's any space to make a lead?

It infuriates me that, IIRC, the ARC never appeared to run the side-on and front-on angles together at the same time.

Had they done so they would have realised the ball had passed his hand before that moment when they look like they might be touching.

Anyway, nothing we can do about it. Need to focus on what is in our control (structure, selection), not what is out of our control.

So was it touched or are we all just being Melb fans?

The ball did not deviate. Nobody touched it.
The AFL need to get 4K Cameras. It is amateur hour right now

I hope the entire Club is very angry

The AFL do need to get 4K cameras that is true.

Got enough money.

Can't play open all the time, there are times we need to dump it in. I'm not convinced we can play that game if we need to. Hope to be proven wrong but the loss of Petty could well be the difference.

No you cannot do that all the time but you have to options like we did against the tigers and 3 and 3rd quarters against the roos, kossie and melk/chandler should go no further than the arc no matter what and that is the problem to many players in one half of the ground, blues just had players sit back.

Hate losing to Carlton. That was one winning streak I was very happy to continue.

How is that a question? Such a dangerous thing to do!

we are a system based team, and I reckon we went away from our system at the start and end of the last Q.

credit to carlton that they made that happen.

We are hard to play against, I reckon teams have to play differently to beat us.

Grundy doesnt play again,

im more ****ty that Salem doesnt ice that kick than the score review and the JVR non free

GRUNDY SHOCKINGLY INSIPID CAN WE OFLOAD ASAP?

You're kidding aren't you? You didn't manage to notice he was the better ruckman tonight?

He certainly isn't a forward, but neither is Gawn

Really the video is a sham, grainy footage, no clear angles, for a multi million dollar sport its a joke, and please dont cofuse my statement with my level of disappointment, I would love to have pipped the blues again on the siren.

If you want to see VAR done properly watch the soccer. AFL is a tight fisted joke

Exactly, they need to use the super slow motion cameras that are used in every other sporting telecast.

Sparrow trying to waltz through Newman and getting pinged was embarrassing

Seemed to me that he took far too long to kick the ball on a couple of occasions too, wasn’t his best

Just watched the slow mo in slow mo.  Missed his left hand, missed his right hand, missed his boot....

GOAL

No goal line angle shown to confirm any of that.

Like it or  lump it we was robbed folks

Imagine if that's for the premiership.

And we call this a professional sport.  Hilarious

[censored] I hate Carlton.

The bunch of meth heads around me could barely string a sentence together.

I thought Richmond had the most insufferable fans but I've changed my mind.

Yes this should have been a free. Was about 10 metres from me and clear contact below knees I would have thought.

But the fact is, we lost. No do-overs.

We did go away from the system, last 5min was everyone trying to win the game off their own boot. Need to stick to the plans and not panic.

I was absolutely hanging for Carlton to finish 9th.

Oh well, I guess there’s always next year.

The ball was on the other side of his hand, see my screenshot.

You're actually right.

Was watching vision just then. I only saw the initial vision which showed the vision coming behind Marchbank. That's where it looked like his finger deviate.

I just saw your screenshot angle in full version and he didn't even tough it and there's clearly a gap. Massive [censored] up there, but again, doesn't change my opinion that it was that one instance why we lost the game.

Rightio, I'll put my hand up and own this one. Apologies to everyone else.

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.

Never in doubt!!! In Steven King’s first game at the helm of the Melbourne Football Club, the Dees outlasted Saints in a wild, momentum-swinging thriller at the MCG, running out 13-point winners.
