Weid cannot mark consistently.

My comment was in the context of a highly rated low draft pick not fulfilling his potential.

I just thought different style of players and development.

Weid, athletic and big. Was given a fair run to prove himself. Looks like the bombers have also rejected him.

Jefferson, wiry and can leap. Struggling to even prove suitable himself for one game at AFL level, at the moment.

You need to understand that Jefferson has been competing with some seasoned key forwards for room as a key forward at Casey. There’s Brown, T.Mac and Schache for starters so Jefferson hasn’t had a regular space in front of goal and yet has probably kicked more than 20 goals so far this year at Casey. I seem to recall that JVR had a better run at it last year and much less competition for space.

Correct - Jefferson has kicked 21 goals this year - JVR got 36 last season

You're probably right re more competition in the forward line this year - last year JVR was mainly competing with Mitch White who played higher up the field and Weid.

I dunno. For mine he’s not very tall.

@drysdale demoni just saw a notification that you quoted me on this thread but I can’t see your post anywhere.

Initially I thought he was more like Lucas Cook or Michael Newton but he has improved in the last month so lets see how he goes in 12 months time.

If he is still performing at the level we have seen this season at Casey we can start to get a little concerned we have another Weid mark II.

Weid's biggest problem even at VFL level was that he constantly got manhandled under the ball. No signs of that happening with Jefferson so far.

As others have said he had a relatively quiet patch mid season but he's now displaying several games of reasonable promise.

If the VFL comp can get it's act together he'll make pleasant Autumn watching

Can we Delist you at the end of the year? Plus a set of steak knives and you might get a gig at OODNADATTA THIRDS!

BTW HE JUST SIGNED A CONTRACT EXTENSION Which takes him to 25/26 I believe!

Says the guy was adamant Petty wasn’t a forward…..we all have opinions and we all believe they are right. Sometimes I will admit I can be blunt with mine. I believe I will be proved correct on this one though.

What kind of response were you expecting when you categorically stated that a first year key forward who's kicked 21 goals in 16 games delist material at the end of the year.

Mind you he's just signed a 2 year extension deal on top of his already 2 year deal.

Yes we all have opinions, but your suggestion of him being delisted at the end of year shows your complete lack of football observation and knowledge in today's game.

@Roost it far alas most social media platforms do not lend themselves well to the nuances of pi$$ taking.

You must have missed his follow-up post (now rightly deleted by a mod) where he was bragging about baiting other Demonland posters.  Trolling, in other words.

Indeed I did. Thanks @Demonstone for illuminating me. I can now peer into the dark recesses of his mind...

That's a bit harsh, in my view.

He doesn't seem to relish the heavy going and badly needs to put on muscle but he has shown obvious consistent improvement and can mark and kick, still handy attributes.

Will be a good player in 2025.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.
