I hope Clayton is back and he replaces Harmes. Carlton run with Pittonet and De Koenig rucking so I think we need to leave Roo down forward and bring in another 2nd ruck/forward and go with either Grundy or Schache.

Petty won't be back for a long time and we need to work out who plays finals and I strongly believe we cannot go in with Max as our solo ruck as good as he is. Not having a VFL game this week rather complicates things.

That's my take too.

On Hibbo, i reckon part of the thinking is also trying to reduce the risk of impact injury, which given the way he plays is always a risk, because Goody is dead keen to have him fit and raring to go come finals - which makes perfect sense becuase he is built for finals,

Very similar approach to how the Cats managed Danger last year (not dissimilar players in terms of their intensity and attack on the ball).

And with Smith, in addition to managing his minutes and keeping him match fit, it is very likely he is going to be designated sub come finals so it also makes sense to give him some really sold minutes down back to get used the defensive systems, build synergy with the other defenders and get good touch because he may have to come on early in games.

I’m more positive on Smith

I think any fwd needs time on the park to sync with the midfield and time leads and it’s worth trying him in another role than a sub

i like smith’s closing speed and defensive pressure

he is more of a pack crashes than Grundy and that is good for our small forwards

That's a tremendous crowd if it happens considering we couldn't get 50K to our home Friday night game in round 12.

Carlton had lost their last 4 and looked awful going into that game.

Now that they’re good and it’s their home game, the crowd should be much bigger.

Sorry I don't normally correct but it's les bleues not les bleus (wiki: The France women's national football team has been known or nicknamed as the "Les Bleues (The Blues)".)

As an aside: all part of the push for feminisation of French - usually just by adding an e at the end and la before when/if applicable. Gets messy in a language where nouns are gendered. e.g. referring to a female government minister as madame la ministre, when it should be madame le ministre.

On the other hand, dick in french is feminine (la bite), so as Goodwin would say, there's a bit going on in this space.

I looked at game day info.

It states, "the Ponsford Stand level 4 will be closed."

https://www.melbournefc.com.au/matches/4965#match-information

If they expect 70 000, then why have the top of the Ponsford closed?

Why?

FIFA want a guarantee the game will continue on screen if the AFL game starts. The quarter final should be well and truly over but they want a guarantee. That or do not start the AFL game. At least that's whats i the press at the moment.

Doesnt sound right. Closed for now perhaps

They sell tix in blocks, which is very frustrating. I assume it's so they don't open an area like top of the ponsford if they don't have to coz otherwise they have to staff it.

But it forces people to buy tix in an area they don't nessarily want to sit in.

It was the same deal for the tigers game

I'm going as a GA, as I did for the tigers game. Got a perfect seat top of the Ponsford down near the bottom of it.

I read earlier in this thread from fear the beard they are expecting 70k. If they haven't yet opened the top of the Ponsford for tix (which I hope they haven't) my guess would be 70k is unlikely.

You'd have to think the excepted rain and the clash with the matlidas game will keep it to aprox 55-60k

They (MFC v Blue) might have to delay, if extra time and penalties happen.

A normal game goes for 2 hrs, extra time about 40 minutes (two 15 min halves), and penalties must be another 10. If that happens, our game won't start till 8 pm. Matildas kick off at 5 pm.

Could be a late night.

Lot of bandwagon Blues that come out of the wood work when they start to show something.

(we are the better team, have been playing at a higher level, have much fewer best 22 not available - and the blues form isn't as good as it looks from the win loss column - the Saints are average, the Pies looked flat as a tack, Port had seven outs and forget about the others)

I’m glad I’m not the only one that sees it this way. Yes, Carlton are a better side now, but they’ve played every team at the right time. Pies off, Port basically tanked that game with 7 changes, the Saints have lost their way, Eagles don’t count, for every good Hawks game they put in a shocker, while the Suns and Freo have had a terrible second half of the year.

I think tomorrow they’ll get found out and they’ll be fighting for a top 8 position for the last two rounds like last year.

In their loss to the blues they were coming off a six day break after their epic against Port.

It's worth remembering that port got hammered by the crows, and also looked flat as a tack, after their loss to the pies.

Correct. As an example, if we kick 100 points tomorrow , we need to keep the Blues to 75 points, or less to mainatin or increase %.

Beating the Blues by a goal or two drops our %.  Not by a lot but thats the effect.

To be honest the final percentage doesn't really matter. It's more the percentage when compared to the teams around us. That's why I tend to look at the points for and against difference. With the obvious advantage to a lower points against if the points difference is the same.

Collingwood currently have a points differential of around 400 points, we have one of around 380. If collingwood lose 2 and win 1, while we win 3 you would think we would make up those 20 points in our wins. A margin of 1 goal in each of the games should mean we finish on top. Obviously it's a moot point if Collingwood win by a lot in their 1 win. And Brisbane are only a few points behind us in their points difference so they have a realistic shot of overtaking us as well.

They could have player World Cup Games at the best venue in the world but FIFA would not share any grounds.

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
