Second spot is well and truly up for grabs. Cannot understand the calls for resting players.

I can only imagine the players are in fantastic nick, relatively speaking for August.

You wouldn't imagine Goodwin and company would be that stupid to allow history to repeat.

Agree unlike this time last year where we were clearly running out of gas and declining. We are the opposite this year

Tomlinson, Woey out

Sparrow, Smith in

Glad Petty retains his spot on the bench 😂

Jordon and Harmes the two clear players fighting for their spot in this side.

People forget how crucial Hibberd was for us earlier this year, hopefully he is the sub.

Harmes very lucky. I’ll say Taj doesn’t set the world on fire but he also doesn’t burn himself like Harmes does. Tomlinson is also stiff I reckon. The super sub was working, no reason to change that IMO

I'm looking forward to seeing Smith play a full game. Hopefully he can do what he usually does in 1 quarter do it for 4.

Harmes played quite well last week

19 possessions 4 clearances & 4 tackles

So rightfully rewarded by the MC

Interesting they are sticking with Harmes...

Because he had a good game

If he'd kicked 2 of those 3 shots on goal most would be screaming his praises

All players make errors, DJ

Fair enough selections, Tomlinson was very poor last weekend & Woey will be good but not up to it yet.

Harmes was good & would’ve been in the best players had he converted & kicked two goals

JJ is doing his job while Clarry is out

Let's all try and enjoy a good weekend of footy and hopefully a good win.

I’m with you on this one, Layz. 💕

While I agree, the club might feel that Smith needs to play a full game. With no Casey game this weekend, this is the only option. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Tomlinson is the sub.

No

Purely on form Michael Hibberd "deserves" to be the sub for this game.

Although, there could be a sneaky chance that Simon Goodwin pulls a surprise and makes Brodie Grundy the sub to give Max Gawn a bit of a rest in the game.

I guess we shall wait and see what happens? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Glad Joel Smith is getting a full game.

Deserves it big time.

What on earth are you talking about?

Where's the evidence that Gawn is a "bit banged up"? can't see it myself.

He got belted a few times against Richmond.

Clashed heads with Ivan Soldo.

Fell over a few times. But that's footy.

Got poked or scratched on the eye in a ruck contest.

You could even see the scratch on his eye/face when Max Gawn did a post-game interview.

Obviously, AFL is a contact sport and you gotta be tough. But I still consider that "a bit banged up".

I wouldn't be feeling the best after the game. Although a win takes away the pain.

I'm wondering if we are setting up Grundy to come in sooner or later as a type of utility

Good to see Smith get a full game as he can play a variety of roles forward or back or as a type of link

I reckon Grundy could play a similar role (but not the same role) as well as a bit of rucking

I’d say Gawn is absolutely cherry ripe. Not sure a scratch is classed as banged up but hey you might be in your 20’s

I wish I was still in my 20's! 🤣

Anyway, I agree with you. Max Gawn actually played better after getting belted.

A hot shower and few cold beers after the game and I'm sure he was fine.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
