These setups never end well for us.

I dunno, I think we've capitalised quite well on these opportunities last 2 years... We snuck into second last year taking our chance in the last 2 rounds and were sitting 3rd after Round 20 of 2021... so we've put the throttle down in these situations the last two years. Would be unreal if we do it again.

Carlton?

Fair call. Carlton beat the top two sides. Could be us next 😬

I think tomorrow is a crucial game. If we get over that I can feel something a little special building. We shouldn't fear anyone.

outside the top 4, i'll take gw$, crom ahead of the baggers

footscray are just looking like they are losing too many key position players at this point in time

Carlton are on a winning streak with the largest injury list in the comp atm and plenty of those injuries are to their most important players.

Their form couldn't be any more impressive.

Didn’t even realise Wines was playing

Done nothing since he fluked a Downlow win. Very average player

haven’t you changed your tune… 😂

I admire the way fly coaches. And I've envied and marvelled at the way they've played for the majority of this year and think Goodwin could take some lessons from the way they play.

Doesn't mean I don't despise the club and wish them to lose. I've always hoped that their unbelievable form would shake toward the pointy end and even though it's one game, I'm hopeful they'll stumble a bit from here which will give some confidence to sides like us heading into finals.

Same can be said about Brisbane and Port after tonight.

I just reallllly hope the players are realising this and play ruthless football tomorrow against Richmond. I mean come out breathing fire and play desperate and ferocious football all day.

Tomorrow could be the catalyst for us to hit form and make a charge for top 2.

The pessimist and scarred supporter says that we'll fluff tomorrow. But I'm praying the players take ownership and realise what a golden opportunity this is for us. It starts tomorrow. The leaders need to know the importance and play with that intention all day.

Show it to us Melbourne.

Well lets hope the Eagles don't run the roos into form...lol

Would be nice to see roos [censored] the Eagles by 100+ and win one or two more. Would be bad optics for the afl to grant massive concessions.

AFL need to send Port a "Please Explain" regarding the Alir Alir incident. Looked very bad.

No,  we want to finish second, and if we win our games, and Port lose to Adelaide tonight and Geelong at Geelong (on the rebound) next week, then it is very achievable.

your'e more optimistic than me but correct. I can only dream of 2nd which the team will be in far better shape this year than last. Unbelievable if it comes off.

Crows should win it from here and port will have lost 3 on the trot with Cats next week without a backline. Did Hinkley get his contract extension?

Not yet and Kochie must be sitting back thinking how clever he is. On the other hand, Ken may want to leave it all behind also.  I hope we now don't get the lazy media pile-on to Ken about shaky ground etc. So unbecoming.

The media story should be last years Premiers a good chance to miss finals.  Everyone came after us last year. Now its the Cats turn.  AT least we made the 8 with a banged up list. Cats have no excuse.

As we had a banged up list they have an aged list. Could it be, AT LAST, the cliff is nearby? Oh I do hope so. Only hate the druggies more than this club.

Sorry youre' right - Age is their issue and in hindsight I suspect many will see 2022 as their last hurrah.  They sneaked in under the wire.  Garry Lyon was effusive last night on just how speedy Freo was compared to cats.

IMO the same might be said of the Pies weakness as showed by the Dees on KB and I reckon follwed fairly closely by Carlton on Friday.

I will never watch this and not tear up. Pure. Magic.

The look on the faces of the poor dogs supporters was great as well.

In less than a minute they had to process it was all over

He was knocked out cold. How a Dr clears him to play after that is beyond me. I hope he's Ok.

She also called Charlie Cameron, “Charlie Curnow”.

Oh come on there was a Charlie in it and a surname starting with C that's close enough for her...

Easily good enough to finish top 4. Could displace Port.

At the lions game at the gabba last year. Straw poll of lions fans there had Hipwood at No.1 to get rid of. Very little love for him up there. Cornes was on the money querying his 7 year or so deal.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.
