The Petty experiment forward is only deemed an experiment still, as he has been injured. If that didn't occur, we'd be all pretty clear that its JVR and Petty as the preferred set up. This is the preferred set up, going forward.

Not long-term it isn’t.

I’d much prefer Grundy forward than Petty.

Can't believe Harmes is getting games.

I would have brought Hibberd in and assign Rivers to play a midfield role in place of Sparrow.

I suspect they are trying to develop consistency across the board. So one straight swap is less disruptive than shuffling two players into new positions. Especially with Riv playing his current role so well.

Why not?

We talk a lot about needing players with elite kicks and Harmes ain’t one of them. He consistently butchers the ball and puts players under pressure.

Really would have preferred Dunstan.

Do people forget Dunstan’s disposal? He’s an A grade butcher. Just because he’s got the ball on a string in the VFL doesn’t mean he’ll translate to AFL. Harmes has been out of form but has much more to offer the team if he plays well.

CHRIST he just doesn't move to the right positions OR is clever enough OR is an accurate enough kick! BBB Banged up  is better than a Banged up Petty as a forward ANYDAY

All the best to Petty and Harmesy, i hope they do well.

Like most I worry about the ever changing forward structure but understand that this is what 2023 has dealt us.

If you had told me at the start of the season that we would be sweating on the performance of Chandler and Melksham my eyes would have rolled.

Oliver out and now Sparrow adds to the concern.

Looking forward to a regulation 30 point win but...................

Weather forecast has become worse. Looks like it will be a wet or slippery game once the ball is bounced.

Petty is definitely a better option than Browb in wet conditions.

Harmes? Seriously?

Nearly as big a momentum killer as Neal-Bullen

Gives away stupid frees, makes bad choices, average disposal, poor under pressure

Look forward to the day we can upgrade from JH and ANB

You're really gonna enjoy the hawks game.

Nibbler's 150th.

And remarkably, for a player we apparently need an upgrade on, his 70th of the last 72 games the dees have played, inclusive of 5 finals and a premiership medallion.

Quick quiz. Do you think any other dees player can match that record?

Hell, is there another player in the AFL who can match that record?

Impressive for a momentum killer.

Goody must be trolling you.

Methinks you might have to wait a while for your upgrade.

PF does it make you feel more important by putting words in capitals? You have made your point that you don’t like Petty. You don’t have to labour it.

And then you lose all your defensive drive and your chief interceptor.

Rivers need to stay half back, with very occasional CBAs IMO.

You’re going to have a heart attack. Calm down, it’s going to be ok. I promise.

Incorrect... I LIKE PETTY but a forward he is not and NEVER will be.

Satisfied ??

You know your club is in a good spot that your biggest gripe is whether a premiership CHB can become a premiership CHF

Not really. Don’t say you like a player in one post and then say he is overrated in another.

You were calling for Rivers ro be dropped only 3 weeks ago...

Might recall I was a bit hard on nibbler last season, but my criticism was more that his momentum killing was that he gut runs everywhere, created chances, gets on the end of it, but was butchering the ball when kicking for goal. I think he's been a lot better this season, Petracca is the same, they are doing so much running to create the play that when they get a chance to be the final link in the chain they are spent and can't convert.

I sit on the Lachie Hunter wing - as opposed to the southern stand Ed Langdon wing, so watch him close up.  Some sublime disposals last week,  always thinking steps ahead of oppo. Not afraid of approaching tacklers.  Great pick up.

Hunters kicking efficiency in the last eight weeks is 47.4%.

He is an accurate kick for goal.

Reckon he will give us more this week, than BBB did last week.

He is OVERATED as a Forward, and is starting to get Collision Injuries ! AND how he gets a starting 22 game over a rapidly imposing and improving JOEL SMITH is fantasyland stuff!

Correct, he sprays it with dinky little kicks round the corner.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
