I feel like he wasn’t going to improve if he stayed, but I expect him to kick on wherever he ends up.

I wonder if his alter ego Jordan Jones will also be leaving.

I think he (whoever came off for him) would’ve felt wonderful knowing his teammate was able to share the glory and joy of having had a chance to be out there on the ground, just like he’d been able to for the previous 3 quarters and 20 minutes. I think whoever that player may have been would’ve loved sharing that lifelong memory with James.

The match was won and over as a contest. Nothing at all to do with being ‘dragged’. Everything to do with thinking about the moment and an experience of a lifetime for a young man who was part of the team. It was a crappy thing not to have done imo. I was embarrassed for him and disappointed in the coach it didn’t happen.

MELBOURNE premiership player James Jordon has informed the Demons he will be exploring his free agency options.

Melbourne has been keen to retain him but he is set to look at the opportunities for more cemented roles having been either the starting or finishing substitute in eight of his 18 games this year. 

The hard-running wingman has played 65 games for the Demons, including 25 in their premiership campaign two years ago when he was the medical substitute for their three finals, including the Grand Final win over the Western Bulldogs.

The club may say that they wanted to retain JJ, but did everything possible to drive him away. Getting Hunter would have been a slap in the face, because he established himself as a wingman in 2022. And Hunter really hasn't proven to be an upgrade. Then constantly used as a sub or at Casey in 2023.

The club's list management needs to be questioned. Like Bedford, JJ is leaving before he has reached his prime. And I don't see a lot of emerging midfield talent at Casey to cover for injuries in 2024. 

Unlike some in our current team, JJ will walk into most teams. Unfortunately he was not one of Goody's pets. Sad to see him go.

 

His performance last Friday showed us why he’d struggle to get a consistent game in our side. He was just ok but he isn’t damaging. He’s behind Oliver, Viney, Trac, Gus and Sparrow. That’s a lot of talent to sit behind and hope something changes.

Disappointing for us he is a FA, as we will get little for him, a lowly pick, whereas if he was contracted, we could get something far better.

i personally don't think so

his value is probably a third rounder, which is what we'll get for him

mid-paced midfielders who aren't particularly good by foot are dime-a-dozen

60% game time, 10 possessions and 1 tackle. Zero impact as Gus's replacement.

I think it was an opportunity to make a statement and he did.

All year the talk has been that Jordon will look elsewhere for more midfield opportunities. We gave him midfield time late in the season, particularly against Adelaide & Richmond, and he was so ordinary. His semi final performance was especially woeful.

He's not quick, he's not a great kick, and it takes him so long to make a decision every time he gets the ball. You only have to look at how Saad led him to the ball on multiple occasions at the start of the third quarter to see that he doesn't do anything instinctively on the football field.

Ultimately he is one of many players who has regressed over the past two seasons, and I have no issue with moving him on, rather than him resigning on a 3-4 year deal on decent money. Unfortunately we won't be well compensated, but we are not improving the team by retaining these sort of players.

 

Love this guy and spewing we will lose him.  But he has to go for opportunities.  He has the talent and if he gets to be the #1 contested player for a team he will go well, will be a good fit at Sydney. best of luck to him!

I’m not sure that’s true, we offer a fat contract that nets us a second rounder if anyone offers the same. If he was traded it would probably be for a 3rd.

Teams will consistently pay overs for free agents because they don’t cost a pick. Classic examples include Adam Tomlinson, Mabior Chol and Rory Atkins

True, but do you think he could have laid a tackle on Newman say?  Maybe he was on Saad, there wasn't too much "woof" and Saad was kicking out after behinds so that inflated his stats.  I'm not watching the replay to find out.

Then why are 5 clubs rumoured to be chasing him, if he is a dime a dozen player?

He is no star, but he must be better than that.

I believe he is an Unrestricted Free Agent and we are not offering him a fat contract.

I do not see a huge upwards trajectory for Jimmy. Likely to be be pushed out by more talented younger players at any of the suggested clubs. Good luck to him, will have to be very smart about where he chooses to go.

Because he’s young, he’s shown he can play consistently on the wing and as an inside mid and he will cost another club nothing. Why wouldn’t you, if you’re a club who needs some more contested ball winners?

Do you really want to risk him calling our bluff with Harmes and Dunstan leaving and taking 3 or 4 more years with us?

What we offer is irrelevant, because it seems he is leaving for opportunity, not money. Even if we have a fat contract in front of him, as an UFA, the other club doesn't have to match or exceed our offer.
