Your criticisms aren’t more valid because you were fortunate enough to go to the game. Nor are you better-placed to assess the team’s performance, unless you watched the broadcast as well. 

I hope your mum is doing well. I usually like a lot of your stuff on here so I’ll clarify what I was getting at.

I specifically asked those being hyper critical if they went to the game. I was trying to ascertain if people who said we were ‘putrid’, or that it ‘felt like a loss’ actually were at the ground. None of them responded. 

I was trying to find out why people saw the game the way they did. Not one person responded or started a conversation that justified their criticism. I saw us work really hard, so I wanted to know how that wasn’t coming across on TV.

I was being a tad sarcastic, but also trying to highlight that it seems perfectly ok to make wildly inappropriate comments about players, coaches and game plans, but somehow it’s not ok to ask where you watched the game from in order to understand what others saw that I didn’t?

Anyway, I hope that gives some context to my point. 👍

Re Kozzie, yes he chases wonderfully well, what I'd like to see is him with ball in hand more often and the opposition chasing him.

We won every quarter.

We kicked straight.

We had our best mid fielder and forward out.

Our second best mid had to play at full forward.

We beat the team that would have knocked us out of the top 4.

We sat on level 3 on a dockside flank and it looked like an even balance of supporters in our area at least. I think there were a lot more than 2k of us there. 

It's true the ground doesn't have a lot of character but the AFL are working on changing that as could be seen with all the boarded up entrances to the ground. It's in a prime spot of the city with metro and country train lines feeding into it too. I have to laugh when I hear people say they won't go to a ground in the centre of town of the same city because it's soulless. They've clearly never had to make the journey to VFL Park. Can you imagine a supporter of Spurs or Arsenal scoring tickets to an away game against each other and saying they would love to go if it wasn't such a soulless bowl. I just read it as they can't be @rsed going, which is fine.

People have made comments it does not matter if they were there or not, as for seeing things that you did not see that's probably most of the game.

Thanks for clarifying, and apologies for getting a bit tetchy there. 

You literally stated it was a question, so  perhaps taking it as a comment was wrong of me (though the amount of support the question received in terms of 👍s seemed to bolster the idea that it was a dig at non-attendees). 

Thanks for your well-wishes. I haven’t been able to go to as many games as I usually attend this year (for associated reasons). I’m not allowed to yell too much when I’m watching the game with her, so it’s been good for my zen.

I'm on the Sunbury line THBT so I feel you. At least I could catch a V-Line train in and out yesterday as there's a station almost the same distance from my nearest metro stop. I think the stadium is a bit like the Docklands area itself and might take a few attempts to get it right but you can't deny that the ground itself is in a great spot.

The FD have decided the 4 more years of Max as back up/fwd is better than 2 as the primary. 

I would have made a similar gamble if it was me - but I would also have a stern talking to Max about how to be a fwd and keep him in the theatrette at AAMI Park watching video every week for 3 hours…

I’m backing in Gawn, Grundy, Pickett, Lever to bounce back after sub standard games for them. Hoping JVR kicks ten in the VFL tomorrow and replaces a small in the forward line. Hope Petty’s ok.

The negativity around here is a bit over the top, yes, we’re not playing like a premiership team, but it’s July, just bank wins. Oliver, Fritsch back for finals, find some form who knows what happens. We used to lose our game after NT every year, we managed to win the last quarter by a goal coming back from a slog in the rain this year. I’m betting if Taj and Brown kick straight in that last quarter to kill the game and give us an easy 6 goal win there’d be a lot less anger in here. It’s understandable MFCSS after our last five weeks but we weren’t losing that game.

I’m not as confident as others may be that Fritsch potentially coming back for finals will be as much of a remedy as we hope. Foot injuries take a long time to settle and need a lot of management once the player returns. This, on top of Bailey being mercilessly struck down during a period where he was trying to regain some form, doesn’t bode well for me. Obviously would be elated to have my concerns dismissed, though. 

Very happy with the win - confidence is an underrated ingredient, hopefully this is the start to a good run home. Best on ground was the Demon Army - their noise was brilliant!

Agree. If they get it right it’ll be unbelievable. 

I think the home clubs need to ask for more from the stadium. Think how good our pregame is for Anzac eve? Why don’t they do more to control the atmosphere pregame? It isn’t an outdoor stadium, it’s a very controlled environment - so control it more. Lower the lights as the teams come on. Build a bit of tension.

A lot of the games there feel like (very cold) preseason games. Last night was 2 teams vying for top 4. It just didn’t feel like it somehow.

Max made a good and needed mark on the wing in the 4th.

He didn't seem to be getting back to support the backline as much as he used to.

I think he his continual adjusting his game to what the team needs.

I reckon his tap work is at its best when Oliver is underneath him, or when Viney is on song.

I was in that area as well. Thought we out numbered them. My view across to the other side, looked like lots of Saints members didn't turn up (empty seats), and our cheer squad definitely made more noise and had bigger numbers than theirs.

Yeah, for sure Kev. Gave me the impression that the majority of their members might be GA as level 3 was quite full. We would've had at least 2k in the bottom deck behind the goals at the Bourke St end.
