Howes injures himself late in the game - looks like an ankle. Handpass to Tomlinson who gets caught and gives away the free and a goal. Junk time Casey 33 points ahead.

Looked a hip flexor thing to me. Strange outwards twist of the whole leg.

Commentators talking about the kids behind the goal.

It used to be a regular occurrence at the MCG, city end before the upgrades. A big standing area was a great place for the kids in the 1970's.

Pity about Howes - looks to be a player, clean and composed.

All over โ€ฆ a well earned win and a week off next week for Casey

Was JVR on in the last quarter- didnโ€™t see him

I can't remember seeing him either.

Maybe because of a quick turnaround (MFC friday night game), they rested him, just in case he is needed.

Though wasn't at his best, and I reckon could do with some more time at VFL level.

Doing a lot of playing from behind.

I spoke to Jake Melksham and congratulated him on his 100th game with Melbourne.I said the club didnโ€™t acknowledge it on their website.Jake said they probably didnโ€™t know.If this is the case l believe it is appalling.

Luckily it didn't effect his game, played well.

Another Casey conundrum

A good win but few stand outs.

Liked Verral... he was well beaten but maybe there's something there

Laurie and Chandler were disappointing

JVR.. just okay

Schache... maybe but is he just too good for VFl but.....

Tomlinson ??

Campbell for Sandy was the stand out player

Looked very much like hip to me. Iโ€™ve done that injury and it was incredibly painful. Much worse than broken arms etc.

Schache has a few things we need. He is a very good set shot for goal. He is competitive in forward ruck work. He has good foot speed and athleticism for his height. Yes, he is not robust, but he only needs five possessions inside 50 to be 'the missing link', given the loss of Fritta.

Tomlinson playing says to me that they expect Petty to be fine for Friday.

Does it really fit that because Petty might be in doubt his potential replacement wouldnโ€™t play at all today?  Then if he pulls up ok Tommo would miss a full match play.

Are you also describing the Weed?

We know how that story goes.

Howes ooked like a medial knee injury to me but no certainty.

Jefferson took two great contested pack marks and flew well for others. Once he gets some bulk he'll be very good.

Verrall was very promising too, rucked against Tom Campbell which was tough, but really followed up well for clearances and tackles.

I really like the look of Howes. The only thing working against him is we have a balanced defence and an over abundance of running skilful half backs. Itโ€™s a good problem to have.

I reckon at 90% of other teams Howes would have had a crack at AFL level by now.

He started as a winger at Casey before being pushed out to HB.  Might get a chance for us here at some point.

Maybe not this season though bar injuries.

Nothing substantial... just a double cramp higher up that buggered him late in proceedings.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturdayโ€™s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon canโ€™t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaideโ€™s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the leagueโ€™s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
