TRAINING: Tuesday 6th June, 2023.

Featured Replies

The players were on the paddock early, so it was difficult to see who had light duties as most are already in the main group.

Harry Petty running and kicking in his rehab phase, though still in runners.

K.Turner in boots, but still in his running program.

Hibbo training.

Will Verrall training.

James Harmes training.

I cannot see Clayton Oliver.

No BBB.

No Jake Bowey, asked a staff member, and they said progressing well in the concussion protocols. He also said, they know they won ugly against Carlton and expect a close one against Collingwood.

Extensive training session. Plenty of running and a drill I haven't seen before.  They play keeping off, using an outside circle of players with the defenders inside. A kind of soccer warm up formation, but a larger area.

Ball movement drills using 3/4 of the field. One group with the mids passing it round by hand, till a whistle and they find an outside runner that comes from the defensive group, who delivers to leading forwards. Two groups, one looking inside, the other towards the boundary for the runners.

They are finishing up with more running. "Another ten and we go again".

Tmac is observing from a wheelie frame, as his foot is heavily bandaged.

End of the session.

A few stay back, goal kicking and some pair up for ball handling, Sparrow and Laurie, Salem and McVee, and Verrall in for some extra running with a trainer on his shoulder.

Still no sign of Oliver?

Hopefully it's just smoke and mirrors for the benefit of the sticky beaks from the Lexus centre.

Maybe he’s doing extra stuff indoors to pass the fitness test?

maybe he's just wearing his cloak of invisibility.

anyone know what the issue with Hibbo was?  marked as injured but maybe more of a old man managed for a week?

we need him back this week

Thanks as ever @kev martin for a really informative summary of the session. Very much appreciated mate.

I misread Tmac as Trac and freaked out for a moment there 😂

There was a lot of running today.

Perhaps they thought it best not to put him out there, as his competitive nature may have had him pushing too much.

Or do you mean Oscar the Grouch? He lived in a trash can.

(Of course, if Sesame Street was set in Australia, he would have lived in a rubbish bin, not a trash can.)

Thanks Kev.

I presume that there will be a training seesion at Gosch's Paddock this week? If so, what day?

The captain's run is usually on Gosch's the day before the game. Sunday 11th at 9.30am.

Will the main Casey training be, Thursday or Friday? Probably, Thursday the 8th.

Then it's a ten day break till the next game, Thursday night.

So I assume something like this break. Three days off, would make it Friday 16th, 11 or 11.30 am, for the recovery and review at Gosch's (unless it is Saturday), Monday 19th for the main session at Casey, then captain's run on Wednesday 21st 9.30 am, Gosch's.

Achilles , reckon he's already missed games and will probably be rested later in the year as well

Hibbo was doing the full running program with everyone else. Though, a little bit behind some of the others. He and Lever were gasping, so was Tracc (who may have been "bunging" it on). A couple of the young ones dropped out, as well as Fritta (I think), close to the end.

Pretty sure Goody said in a Presser that he was just being managed, and that he'll definitely be back next game.  Think he also said that, given his age, Hibbo will be managed this way for the rest of the year...

Old age. Happens to the best of us.

I think they are managing his calf. He pulled up sore against Freo so they rested him against Carlton.

I don't expect to see him much between rounds 20 and 23 when we play Richmond, North in Tassie, Carlton and Hawks. I suggest they'll give him a decent chunk of time off before finals to get himself cherry ripe.

His achilles is stuffed as well, will definitely miss games here and there.

Thanks Kev and all posters very informative and entertaining as usual, hope Clayton and Hibbo hot to trot next Monday. Really looking forward to how we stack up against the Pies.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
