Are there many ground ball drills and 'in close' stuff?

They did two drills, both very close.

One taken by Mark William's. Kicking and hanballing short distances. His encouragement is still ringing in my ears. Fast hands, be perfect, watch the ball down onto your foot.

The other one was all handballs. They had to go quick because of the numerous balls in play. On one end of the formation, they were on their knees, flicking the ball up, after it hit the ground ahead of them.

Good call Layzie

Absolutely 0 chance we risk Oliver this week given the sheer amount of injuries Carlton have, plus how bad they are playing.
KB tho….

Carlton are not playing that poorly. They would have beaten Sydney if McKay and a few others kicked even 50% of the shots they had.

They had a really strong intercept night, move the ball pretty well and have dangerous forwards.

Kev what was this photo about?

National Reconciliation Week.

The young first nation fella's came down and did a performance.

A few of the MFC players joined in, as the fella's paired up with a player.

All the staff members were there, enjoying a barbecue put on by the Demon Army.

Quite a few of the AFLW players also turned up. I think their preseason may start tonight?

2 of those 3 are true.

Carlton have been moving the ball like they’re drunk.

Due to lack of half back skill and midfield pace they have no tempo. Much like us at times.

Their midfield injuries actually open up a chance for Fisher and Dow to come in and be a completely different mix.

They are going to give us a torrid night. If their forwards get accurate they win

A friend of mine saw Oliver doing run throughs at about 75% pace at Gosch's on Saturday before the game. Said he looked unhampered and looked like he could play next week. Just a random observation though.

Unfortunately you don't play AFL at 75%...

In previous personal experience of hamstring injuries you can get to around 75%/80%  within a week or 2.

Getting past that level is where the problem lies.

He will be back after the bye, anything earlier will be too big a risk.

I know the 21 day hamstring isn’t a thing any more but I wouldn’t want to be the coach or medical staff telling him he can’t play King’s Birthday if he ticks off all the clinical indicators.

Miracles do happen even if rarely.

Nah @old dee. Miracles happen heaps. Carlscum haven't won a premiership in almost 30 years. Essenscum haven't won a final in 645,984 days and the Deez were paid a free kick in their forward half in round 2, 2019.

How good was that this morning, Kev! The BBQ was indeed for MFC staff and visitors but really anyone was welcome to a snag. How funny was it to see our players replicate the indigenous boys’ dance moves. As dancers they make great footballers! 😂

But the best part was watching the young indigenous boys inhale a snag or 10 after their performance. Teenage boys = no leftovers 🥳

I asked Staffy if the players were allowed a sausage in bread. He said probably not but in his opinion one sausage won’t hurt.  Tracc and Melksy were the only players to indulge. If illness befalls either of them you know who to blame.  It was all Staffy’s fault. 😁

Trac will have to answer to his Nonna @WalkingCivilWar. Much, much scarier than anyone at the Club. And Milkshake and Maysie can have a discussion about the sausage. Their conversations over a meal always go well.

He is progressing through by the sound of it, but it will be the full tilt running, rapid acceleration, deceleration loading that’ll determine match readiness. 3 weeks is a minor hammy whether we risk it 3.5 or so will be interesting. If he does a major one it could be season ending so a big call either way.

Let's hope he also developed his analysis of the 'team' from watching them play against Freo. A few stern words to those seniors in the team who owe Clayton their footy careers to date need a bit of an ear bashing from Clarrie - sorting out the chaff from the straw because the coaches don't seem to be able to define 'mediocrity' across game time.

(I really am joking, but just watching an injured Clarrie train - and train hard - should be enough to provide the stimuli necessary for improved performances. During the training session at Yea earlier in the year, Clarrie was setting the standard for all to follow - no-one came close, but his efforts and intensity were contagious.)

Trac definitely deserved a snag in bread after his performance on the weekend.

I wouldn't want to be the person responsible for him being the next Luke Shuey...

You get it wrong and it can dog you the rest of your career.

If we're smart we will be really conservative on this one.

Oliver is more important than one game.

1000% this.

This is a generational player. I would rather lose KB 10 times over, than lose Clarry for the season or have him struggle with recurring hamstrings for the rest of his career.

Losing KB is inconsequential, losing Clarry to long term injury is not.

Hasn’t this drill been done a thousand times over.  It’s not our issue.  I’d have them running and kicking and running. And then running and kicking and hitting targets.  With players leading up and demanding the footy. And have another group of players putting under pressure.  A chase from behind with 5 metre split “head start “.  And lots of discussion if targets aren’t hit.  That’s the need.  Oh and shown them what the “corridor “ is.

I spoke with an insider Saturday at lunch. Clarrie has a strain not a tear. We compared notes too in our day and it has all changed. Rehab starts with immediate exercise gradually increasing the load till certain goals are achieved, remember he didn't tear the muscle. The downside is it is less predictable when he will have rehabbed to the point where they let him play.

Thanks, Kev for the update. Did Schache train with the defenders? I suspect Hibbo due for a rest and an extra tall down back to mimic Petty. With De Koening playing as third tall Tomlinson or Schache will be needed to support May and Lever (the latter who cannot hold onto his marks atm)

If you don’t think our handballing doesn’t need work I don’t think you’ve watched the last two weeks!

Attacking handballing to get out of trouble allows a player running free to then balance up and kick to a target.

Not saying kicking isn’t an issue too but handballing drives our scoring chains, the same for most sides

Maybe Staffy  could do a drill with the forwards where he throws a sausage to the left, one up the middle and one to the right to get our forwards to seperate. Then another drill where he throws a sausage up in the air to a tall and one at the talls feet for a small to be there.

My understanding is that tears and strains are the same. But Mild Strains (Grade 1) are at least 3 weeks recovery.

Yes 'Webber' has said that before...take it from the physio.

Strains are a kind way of saying you've torn your hammy...

Carlton is not an easy game. We have to fight like hell and try and put them to bed asap especially with Cerra and possibly Cripps out plus a few others. Cheating umpires could be a problem. Brace for a 50m penalty when they catch feelings.

No more talk of easy kills. Even Hawks and North are improving a little week by week.

GWS beat  Geelong at the cattery for the third time. WTF do they know about that ground that Goodwin obviously doesnt.

Surely he will be going over the video to see how they did it.

If you can beat Geelong at the Cattery then you can beat Collingwood at the G. Even Collingwood players are human (sort of)  theyre not AI robots.

They know how to use the corridor and win clearance. That is basically the only way you can beat to them there.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
