He wasn’t alone part of the culture issues and our drop off after 2023 & why number 5 wanted out!

And people wonder why there was no Melbourne dynasty.

Lochie Hunter was another tool

Another one who was sacked / retired. Shocking decision to bring him to the club.

Harmsy was another Jason Taylor Gem - pick 2 in the Rookie Draft.

I was never confident when he had the ball in hand that it would hit a target, but, like many of our midfielders, he had the capacity to lace out kicks, but more often it was long and indirect, which under Goodwin was okay.

Taylor always talks about character when considering his draft choices, but he also loves competitiveness. Those two traits don't always go hand in hand.

For me - his kick to Fritsch in the GF after bursting from the contest was his highest point (cough...on field).

I remember seeing him on stage in Perth the day after the GF - he was still up from the night before and seemed to be in his comfort zone. Seems as though he liked it too much in that zone.

As others have noted in relation to the Eagles, but also the Pies (rat pack), success can turn a loose culture into an unstoppable malignent force within the club.

A bit like May - its disappointing he's gone out on a low - but he bled for the team and was a major factor in our premiership. I hope he too finds what he is looking for and am grateful for his service to the Dees.

He would have received a payout of his remaining contract which finished up at the end of the year.

Even for a third strike?

Absolute garbage. Game was going past wingers like him and we had no idea. Behind the 8 ball as usual

Especially when our leaders were consulted and against the decision but still went ahead of it.

My MLB team the Seattle Mariners have a strict policy of only trading in players from other clubs with exceptional character. I think it’s a great policy.

I’m surprised we went anywhere near him after his car incident during early COVID.

They have been in the league for 49 years for 6 playoffs and no pennants

Doesn't seem like a winning formula....

A) i agree that they’ve been a shambles.

B) the no DH policy is a recent thing.

C) they almost made the World Series last year and are 3rd favourites to win tho entire thing this year.

Same with the Melbourne storm. Craig Bellamy does not tolerate d heads either.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
