We are the highest scoring team in the comp, I think our forward line is working pretty well

I couldn't agree more, I keep reading our forward line isn't working properly yet when you're the highest scoring team in the comp you'd think we're doing something better than all other teams.

An informed thought?

Probably making assumptions going by Goodwin's presser.

I did find it strange that he didn't rule it out when asked. I thought the answer would simply be that he will come through the VFL but made it sound possible of AFL return when he said he would see how Salem trains tomorrow. Made a point of saying he's had a mini preseason training fully for the past month.

Would prefer to see him play VFL (even 70-80% game) but wouldn't be surprised if he ends up the sub.

Won't happen.

Interesting Goody didn’t mention Schache when talking about forwards coming in for Petty. Looks like being either TMac or BBB.

Its pretty strange isn't it. Although I think the media's questions have more been around whether Goodwin is starting to feel settled with what his best forward set up looks like, I still get a feeling around the AFL that people believe our forward line isn't fully functioning yet, maybe they are just looking at it more in a traditional sense where our talls are leading our scoring (ala Geelong) which is silly obviously. But I also don't know why Collingwood whose forwards have scored 10-20 less goals then our forward aren't getting similar queries.

The below showing the inside 50 differentials between the top teams isn't overly significant. But the amount of goals we're scoring is. Our accuracy is outstanding (especially if you take out the Hawthorn game where I thought we were just a bit casual with our shot attempts).

Hinkley appeared to try this out last night on 360 Bin and was forcefully ejected from the premises quick smart by our learned Premiership coach

I thought they might give Smith a go this week after Goody pumped him up a fortnight ago.

Going by today's presser, it sounds like Petty's repalcement will come from BB, TMac or Melksham.

I reckon it'll be the latter to play a defensive role on Aliir and will hopefully ensure we don't get exposed at ground level.

Let's hope whoever comes in is clean at ground level and lay some tackles.

If its wet can 100 percent guarantee it will be Melk.

There is predicted rain on Friday night.

Makes me now wonder whether they'll bring in Joel Smith instead for the extra speed and ground ball ability.

I'd like to see Joel come in, has some good form and if BBB/TMac aren't 100% (I don't think they are) they aren't going to be useful if there is anything other than good conditions.

He has also proven that he can play a defensive role on Alir even though he is playing less of that intercepting defender and has started to play 1 on 1 better.

You would have a yet unproven Petty as forward over a proven premiership forward who kicked 3 goals in Ben Brown?

Yeah right. We need BB firing if we are to win another flag period!

Ben Brown will be in this week but no doubt Petty was ahead of him. Time to step up Big Ben.

146 goals, 86 behinds, to me that's a very well oiled forward line. Maybe a few little things need tweaking cause no team is perfect.

The decision on who comes in for Petty will have a lot to do with how we plan for Aliir.

I think I would go for Brown to stretch their defence and play Van Rooyen on Aliir.

Sorry FT, where do they each play?

Is Bbb or whoever comes in,  at Ff and Jvr at Chf?

I see Jvr as someone with a lot of pace and stamina and see him playing at Chf better.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
