I started going to the footy regularly by myself (ie without parents) in 1979.

The 80s, 90s and the first 15 years of 2000 and into the  were a nightmare in terms of dees v hawks games.

So many hammeringd. So many games where the hawks seemed to take pleasure in bullying us.

And the hawks fans increasingly were more painfully smug and dismissive.

I remember winning a game against them in i think roos first year as coach.

As is my wont, i was very vocal. Though as is also my wont, good natured and never aggro or looking to get into the hawks fans.

Which didn't stop a hawks fan, who looked like an accountant, getting triggered and responding to me most of the day. Which mostly involved reminding me of the last 30 years.

So it is no surprise that I was increasingly vocal in the expression of my joy as victory looked more and more assured.

When it was clear we were going to win, I might have yelled PERCENTAGE! or some such.

The hawks fan responded with a comment along the lines of that was the dees final and it was a real pity we wouldn't be meeting them in finals any time soon.

Since that point in time the dees and hawks have been going in different directions on the ladder.

And so I really hope we spliflicate them today. No mercy.

We owe the hawks BIG time.

Dont mind if we save a few petrol tickets for the Game against Port Next Friday night.

Dees by 40 will be just dandy.

....and, as long as you know who is not reported for striking after taking a contested mark, the thread will not reach 87 pages. :)

My poor daughter is there today with her hawks partner. Boohoo.

Make sure you are rude and offensive to him deever - you might get rid of him.

I feel awkward getting to the ground when it's not our home match.

It's familiar, but different.

Like the night i took my 13yo son to Rnd 11, 2011 thinking it was our home game but errr... got to the gate and realised it was the Bombers'.  Doh!

Reckon we were outnumbered about 7 to 1 haha.

Ended up sitting behind the cheer squad at the Punt Rd end and had a cracker of a night sticking it right up that arrogant bunch (the Bombers not the CS!!)

Green had a night out and i thought Moloney played one of his best games i'd witnessed.  Mckenzie pretty good as well.

In the end it was one of the best faux pas i ever made...

Thanks Uncle for that cold shiver down my spine.

Why can't Kayo have a pre game show?

Decided to head in and missed them run out for May's 200th. Was it a good banner?

Saw frosty run out for his milestone.

Come on boys start well like you have done the past couple of weeks

Let’s bury them with a sustained four quarter effort. Really despise the Dawks.

Hoping we have transgressed to the point that we don't drop games like this. It's time to start burying teams the Hawks sides right from the first bounce.

I'm a little disappointed that Frost (150 games) didn't get to join May for the coin toss.

Of course, the risk is that if you gave him the coin he might try to bounce it twice and then land it on the side.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
