Apologies for the lack of Casey Training reports Demonlanders but, travelling up the East Coast for a couple of months with Mrs Fence. I had a vision last night and I thought that it might be relevant to tie it into a segment , hence this post. Remembering Looney tunes cartoons were a favourite of mine coz you got variety and some good laughs.

I thought about it and came up with this idea,

LOONEYMOVE F.C. The chance to suggest moves and strategies which might be right out of left field, interesting or just plain Looney!!

I was thinking about that when I see that Clarry Choo Choo spends around 83% on the ground in a game. Why not keep him on the ground for around 90% of the time and throw him to Full Forward with Kozzy at his feet and play other 4 players in forward lines as High half forwards for a period of time.

So there it is... LOONEYMOVE F.C and indulge in some discussion re players positions and Strategies around our great Footy club.

Of now to cook the Fish caught this morning at Batemans Bay

Speaking of Looneymoves and the NSW South Coast; fun fact time!

The Bateman's Bay commercial fishing fleet delivers all its fish direct up to Sydney directly, and it is almost entirely just the recreation fishers who actually bring their fish in locally. That seems sensible enough given that Sydney is where the big market is, of course, but the punchline is that a solid share of the fish available retail in the South Coast has been transported back down there via road from the Sydney markets.

Apparently they do the same at Lakes Entrance and drive it straight past my front door, nuts.

Picket as you commence your evening meal of heartily earned pescatarian delights please don't go apoplectic and choke on a fish bone.

Looneymove # 1

Tom MacDonald is selected to play Anzac Eve at centre-half forward. Confounds the critics and gives renewed self-confidence to the doubters by a magnificent return to form.

I really like Charlie Spargo and love the regular moments of calm genius he brings to the our half-forward zone. I also fully understand that his game is committed to low-possession roles as space-blocker, decoy, and so forth. BUT I really wish we could build up his numbers a bit. My feeling is that if we could get him just a bit more involved in the play it would not only add to his contribution as a smart player who finds the important difficult links, but would also add to his selfless roles by forcing the opposition to be more aware of him.

Anyway, I've put it in the Looneymove FC thread because my proposal is;

When Spargo comes back from his concussion, give him a spell in the 2s and give him some time playing right in the middle of the action.

There is a small, but not zero, chance we could get our very own discount-brand Brent Harvey if only we can tweak the mindset a bit, and the one thing our midfield lacks is that little edge of cleverness.

Spargo to play as a distributor out of half back

Salem to role through the midfield to add a touch of class

Bowey on a wing

No in Lakes Entrance fresh fish, shark, crabs, bugs & prawns (in season) are sold all year round from the back of the old fishing-trawlers, so fresh they’re quite often still live, but please 🤫 don’t tell anyone.

Bowey as a junior had excellent goal sense, love to see his pace and underrated aerial sense as a high half forward, if only as a rotational swing once in a while. Salem sadly is a mile off match fitness and he is someone that needs a big block of fitness regime before he really hits his straps so realistically he isn’t ready for proper midfield until next season. But I see the logic, just tempering the realistic nature of such a suggestion. Spargs is genuinely one of our most influential players and as much as it frustrates that he doesn’t accumulate as much he just doesn’t have the tank for the Harvey style role, as much as he has the ability for it. My niece dated him in high school, so I know the area he is from and the mind set of that area, he won’t leave a stone unturned as he is a genuinely humble and dedicated kid, just wish someone would strap him to Clarry for a bit. He was fatter and more unfit than any top 5 pick ever in my opinion, but got taught the right things, fixed his mindset (I personally like to think someone like Gawn would be such a great role model for this and probably was) and got himself cherry ripe for maximum output. Then we could see what ‘Chugger’ Spargo was really about

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
