It's always great to have Spargo pop up up and kick a goal when we need one. Always on time and does it so often.

I think everything about our good performance has been said so I'll give a shout out to the commentary team on fox (I can't believe I'm typing this).

Just four people calling a game of footy without yelling and hyperbole. I actually left the volume up. Very relaxing game to watch.

We're starting to really click into gear now.

Good point.

Like this too.

There were a lot of posters arguing that Tmac was done.

I get it to some extent but it wasn't that long ago when he was a huge part of our last flag.

Yesterday he showed those skills and determination again.

A fit Tmac playing at his best will see us go all the way again.

I know this isn't a punting forum but just wanted to share my pain with any punters in the group :)

16.1 GOALS AND BEHINDS
16.1.1 Scoring a Goal
Subject to Law 16.2, a Goal is scored when the football is Kicked completely over the Goal Line by a Player of the  Attacking Team without being touched by any other Player, even if the football first touches the ground.
16.1.2 Scoring a Behind
Subject to Law 16.2, a Behind is scored when any of the following occurs:
...
(b) the football touches or passes over the goal post or touches the padding or any
other attachment to the goal post;
(c) a Player of the Attacking Team Kicks the football over the Goal Line but before
completely passing over the Goal Line, the football is touched by another Player;

Note: "Goal Line", not "back of the padding".

According to the rules, it's a goal. This "back of the padding" thing is a furphy.

This needs to be sent to the AFL, ch7 and fox footy to remind them all that the padding only applies if it is hit by the ball.

Agree, browny & Gaz a breath of fresh air.

Solid performance, lifted off the pedal lightly in the last but still kept it down enough. All the players did their bit and aside from hibbos Achilles and levers "bit of an ankle" unscathed. Bring on the bombers next week.

I've been trying to tell everyone that Pickett's no good, but will they listen?

The score reviewers have only one decision to make (unlike the umps for whom I feel pity despite my swearing at them). You'd think they'd know the rules that affect their one simple job. Apparently not. (I wouldn't expect the commentators to know much at all.)

I finally made the move and got a Kayo subscription. Watched the game last night and 2 things were immediately apparent. One quality of the game commentators is a vast improvement on channel 7. And no ads while the game is underway. Oh the bliss of no Brian ! I have resisted for some time because I am firmly in the “ there is no substitute for going to the game “ however with an ever increase of games at night and those not on FTA I succumbed to Kayo. The upside is I can watch when and wherever I am ( last night on my IPad while away for Easter. ) the 21st century has caught up with me and not all of it is bad. P.S F1 is looking good from now.

Compared to 7 commentators they are heaven.

Does anyone even know who the score reviewers are? They've never explained who it is making these decisions, are they actually umpires/officials? No one knows.

Having said that I think it was a point.

Wait until the next tv rights deal (starting next year?) when Fox/Kayo are allowed to provide their own commentators for ALL games - we'll never have to listen to BT, Jobe, Lingy, McLachlan and the rest of those nuffies again (except for the GF and hopefully we'll all be at the G and can watch the replays with the radio commentary 🤣)

I agree 100%. The back of the padding is totally irrelevant. We, and Frittata, were robbed of a goal.

The most relaxed and enjoyable TV commentary that I can remember.   None of this blokey “wodya think BT,  Richo etc” nonsense.

Our fumbling is becoming a concern and will hurt us against the better sides, especially when it is Petracca, Viney, Oliver, ANB, Spargo etc... who are usually so clean. We have to tidy this up.

My man Brayshaw is possibly our sloppiest current player. Some of his un-pressured stuff ups today (and over the last 2 weeks as well) were mind boggling. It is only his 2-way running and defensive efforts keeping him in the 22. He is a gun, but clean hands and feet required.

I agree.. not sure why so many of the team have been fumbling and yesterday was particularly bad (obviously it was highly contested, but still, there were many dropped uncontested marks). and yes, my fave brayshaw has been one of the big culprits. not a great look. i also noticed chandler was a little guilt of it it in the first half too. it seems to catch on throughout the rest of the team, much like missed shots at goal..

a slightly better/healthier opposition yesterday would've made a more stressful watch. we were lucky we weren't punished.

No idea but I think we all need to chip in so they can have their glasses prescription updated.

Why do channel 7 think this the way to go? I don’t know of one person who enjoys it. Pure [censored].

Very clear rule The umpires should know that

Just read a match review that deadset described Lever as a “high profile recruit”. He’s in his sixth season at the club ffs. Twice as long as he was at the fruit tingles.

its akin to referring to “ex-Bomber” Michael Hibberd or “Number 2 draft pick” Christian Petracca.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
