I can’t decide because of the depth so I’ll let you guys pick yours.

What's that projected, like a spotlight, up on to the clouds? Is it Werridee's avatar?

I reckon that's pretty good - for mine on team balance I'd have Chin in for Harmes or Sparrow.

I hope they take advantage of this depth this year and rotate our players through

I think we would be looking at our best 22 for 60 years

Our added depth this year is McVee and Chandler. McVee is replacing Hibbo and Chandler’s fighting to hold a spot ahead of one of the depth mids as Pickett plays more midfield.

As for the best possible 22 - which is mostly irrelevant as the chances of having all 22 fit and firing is slim - there’s still plenty of questions.

Will our talls hold form and fitness through the year? Will the rucks and big forwards work?

Do we need Brayshaw, Harmes or JJ on the wing for more height (some of Hunter’s aerial efforts were shoddy at best in round 1). Is Gus a reliable defender against good teams? Can we get away with 3 sub 185cm back flankers? Can we get away with 4 smaller forward flankers none of whom are strong aerialists?

A strong first up effort doesn’t go close to answering any of these queries.

I'll have a go

Jake Lever, Steven May, Trent Rivers

Christian Salem, Harrison Petty, Angus Brayshaw

Lachie Hunter, Clayton Oliver, Ed Langdon

Alex Neal-Bullen, Tom McDonald, Charlie Spargo

Kysaiah Pickett, Ben Brown, Bailey Fritsch

Max Gawn, Jack Viney, Christian Petracca

Int: Brodie Grundy, Kade Chandler, Jake Bowey, Tom Sparrow

Sub: James Harmes

Werridee probably did one of these very recently.

Fully fit and at the peak of demonstrated ability - Hibbo's best is therefore better than Harmes. On this criteria is Melksham better than Spargo? My other thought was Dunstan, is peak Dunstan greater that Sparrow.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
