There's no plural, there's only 1 Harmes kick in folklore

You might think there's no plural, but I've got 6 versions of the same kick that says otherwise.

Max Gawn says LOL.

Marshall, Darcy and Grundy likewise.

Tim English is good, but lets not get carried away.

He has 5 AA jackets and a premiership medal to go.

'Fatside kick' is a worthy avatar name for the forum that I have considered.

According to the ‘sensitivity readers’ this term is now subject to immediate revision. Henceforth to be known as the ‘enormous side kick’

Apologies Augustus but I take offence to this and wish it be renamed perfectly weighted kick to the far side of the ground into space.

What if he wants to be referred to as a Super Hero and not a side kick?

I've managed to watch the replay of the Richmond match and assuming fitness here are my ins and outs:

In: Viney, Fritsch, Hibberd, JVR,

Out: Chandler, Laurie, McVee, Brown.

McDonald needs to lift, and should Melksham and Smith regain form and fitness they along with Chandler, should be the main door knockers, and Schache, of Course.

Salem is the unknown quantity: an essential member when fit.

It’s amazing how they get it up in time.

The next step, WCW isn't the only one to get lost in the MCG.

Pushing hard for top 4

Interesting opinion, to which you are surely entitled.  Max and Brundy for starters are way ahead of him.

Can't disagree.  The bulldogs have only a handful of 'impact' players or players that regularly and consistently hurt the opp:  Bontempelli, Smith, Naughton and maybe Libertore who will soon be 31.  As mentioned elsewhere, their midfield is no longer elite imv.

Then they have a stack of young highly talented players with potential whose impact will wax and wane during the season.  I include English in this group.  I also put Treloar in this group as he is often injured.  Of course, each and every one of them will have some games where they star but I doubt they can put enough together to succeed.

The challenge for them is getting the max from the two groups of players while trying to build on field cohesion after all the list and position changes in the off season.

Interesting that Beveridge chose to not play a scratch match.  Bound to have something up his sleeve.  Maybe they did a bit of experimenting but I see a need for them to experiment a lot more with their position changes and cohesion.

Doubt they will make the 8.  We will beat them round 1.

Does Beveridge get the sack if the miss the 8?

I have a feeling that Brown McVee and Chandler will be in the 23 snd Viney  and Fritsch return. Your a bit tough on Tmac who not only got 3 goals always makes it much easier for the smalls and mids to play taller and contribute. Just think Hibbo  might have to wait till a form lapse or injury even with Salo sidelined for 5/6 or more maybe.

Chandler's only  blemish was he did not convert so I think he has good reason to be given the confidence to stay in. Viney if fit will maybe push Harmes to the sub.

Very hard to judge team and ordinarily JVR deserves a spot but BBB did enough overall  for this game where his height might be crucial.  JVR very close though.

It's going to be a great game hope 50/60,000 get there ( Doggies fans get to the G your team deserves your support) and I am bullish for us this year but respect Dogs as improvers with height now.

Dees by 17 pts.

Curious re Fritsch!  He has not trained for like 3-4 weeks now?  So many have him in the team....surely he is not remotely prepared for a hitout like this?

CHandler i think has to stay within the team....He kicked 1.3 and had hands in several others.  He had a better game then Tmac/BB imo and does not deserve to get dropped for narrowly missing a few shots.

On news reports it sounded like he may not have got the contract renewal he wanted.

Despite their 2016 premiership and 2021 GF they haven't been a consistent finals team.  Also, last year wasn't his best in the media.

Will always be their hero but could quickly become 'yesterday's man'.  Reckon he needs to regularly make top 4 and contend in at least a few PF's in the next 3 years to keep his job.

Gone are the days when the discussion pre round 1 is all about which handful of 18 year old fisrt year players that are green as green will we lump all our hopes on for that coming season.  Now it's all about trying to sqeeze 26 or 27 experienced and very deserving players into 23, and which ones will be incredibly unlucky to not get a game.

Starting from the 23 that played against Richmond and assuming as per Yze's press conference that only Fritta is fit to play (not Viney), I think Woey Jnr makes way for Jordon as sub and Fritta comes in for Laurie.

I think McVee is a lock given he played in both praccy games and I think Chandler did enough to get a run at it in the real thing.

It means a fit JVR, Hibbo, Schache, and Tomlinson miss out, with others such as Salem, Viney, Melksham, Joel Smith, Dunstan returning from injury, as well as other promishing youngsters such as Disco Turner, Laurie, Woewodin, Deakyn Smith and Blake Howes continue to develop at Casey.  And thats not mentioning any of the first year players, which Will Verrall has been an absolute standout for mine.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol
