Unpopular opinion here but I have full trust in Goodwin and the list management however way they handle this situation.

Agreed overall, but there have been some f ups over the last year or two that have taken the shine off my view of our recruitment strategies. Grundy trade this year was a flop for what we had hoped for, and despite injuries we still lack a tall dominant forward, for which Gawndy was never going to succeed.

Are we seen as a 'destination' club anymore?

Perhaps that's a contributing factor in all the talk of getting high draft picks rather than landing a big 🐟

Granted, its early doors in the trade period

Harley Reid has a more well rounded game than Clarry as it stands.

Clarry hasn't improved his week areas, regardless of how good his contest work is.

Many people are blinded by their love for one individual.

Might just be the best thing for Clayton and us long term.

Everyone thought a Collingwood would fall off a cliff once Treloar left and Stephenson (to a lesser degree).

We've shown that we actually function better as a side without another inside specialist in the side.

Why don't we wait and see, eh?

More well rounded based on what. Has he been the best player in the league the last two years prior to this one? What on earth could you measure. He hasn’t played. Clarry has such a rare skill set. It’s hard to compare him to anyone. Treloar and Stephenson are what you are comparing him to? In what world are they even working as his butler?

there’s a reason every supporter of every other club is now saying get the war chest out, what picks do we have to offer, get it done etc.

Von my son.

You've misread and misunderstood me by some margin.

I can't respond if you think I'm comparing Oliver to Treloar and Stephenson.

I'm out.

I hope Reid not only has what it takes to be a great player, but is also prepared to deal with the enormous pressure of coming into the club off the back of Oliver being traded. Those are some big shoes to overtake.

Have a cup of tea, a bex and a lie down.

Like the sky was falling when Max went down against Brisbane, you have no capability to think anything but the worst in every scenario.

Young players get opportunity through injury and suspension and teams adjust when players are out, like we did during Clarry’s absence this season.

As for Brayshaw every player in the competition is 1 hit away from a career ending concussion just like Daniel Venables.

Whatever the outcome things will be fine, we will have Oliver back focused or we will have picks that JT and Lamb have shown they will use wisely. Teams need to continually evolve.

The sun came up today, I’m still breathing and my family are healthy, life’s good look at positives and enjoy it

You obviously missed the many many posts I made during the season where I was extremely confident we had what it takes to win a flag.

I also wasn't here having a big old cry about how Goodwin and the club have no idea what they are doing after we went out in straight sets, like so any of the posters who are now here backing Goodwin 100% for wanting to trade Oliver. Funny that.

But by all means, don't contribute anything to the discussion I was having about the quality of our midfield going forward, and just post some passive aggressive BS instead.

No I didn’t. I know what you meant. You’ve run out of dribble for the day, that’s fair.

I’ll see you when something else bad happens, like we lose a game or the best player we’ve had in a few decades gets traded. Keep up the paradiddles my child.

Yeah look don't worry I definitely see that side of it as well, but I think Goody has now reached a point where enough is enough. He's backed these blokes long enough now and it hasn't paid off for the last 2 years. I think deep down he knows he's on borrow time with the list we have.

@WalkingCivilWar made an interesting discussion around Goody giving the players an almighty spray after our loss to Carlton in the final. Whilst its seen as completely out of character, I think that was the sign right there that he was at tipping point and was simply fed up with the playing group after backing them to the tilt.

Such an interesting few weeks coming.

The club got rid of Watts for behavioural stuff, and a lot of fans weren't happy with it at the time. We got Fritsch out of it and it turned out alright.

If Oliver does leave, then his behavioural issues were obviously so concerning that the club had to make the move.

Willing to back the club in.

What if Gawn just wanted a free babysitter?

George Gawn will not be fed or have his diaper changed, but he will be able to execute a perfect handball 30m over his head.

So the real winners here are Melbourne fans in 18 years.

Pretty concerning that we were happy to put a statement out saying Tonlinson was a required player but it's been 24 hours since this news broke and still nothing from the football club..

It is not a good look to be reactive. We did not come spilling our guts when injury murmurs happened during the year and in the same way we will be patient.

To be fair, it appears to be have been confirmed by list managers that we are open to offers, so the club putting out statement he is a required player would be a little perplexing. Joining the dots, we made the first move here.

Yes, and that post mentioned that Goody gave the biggest spray to Kossie post game on front of the while team. Wouldn't be the first rule of Management 101

Just throwing this out there... maybe part of the problem is Goody?

Shouldn’t take too long.

Hate to put it out there but there is a chance that we lose Oliver and still don't have the draft capital to get Reid. If we want him gone we will probably accept unders.

I know we survived without Oliver for 10weeks but we don't really have the midfield depth to cover him for a whole season. Our window will be slammed shut unless we can trade in some ready made mids.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
