Anyone here unhappy to see Chandler as part of this?

The majority of MFC players are like children to me and I'm devastated when they leave. Others, like Chandler, are more like nephews. Sad to see them leave, but if it means an upgrade, we'll then, sorry bro.....🙄

Sans Allen I would presume

Prefer to see Laurie in the frame

TBH I'm not sure how you ever play Kozzie, Chandler Laurie and Spargo in the same team (and then there's AMW)

Gee, so many reasons that I hate Cats, another example above. Port offering overs. Apart from some good games this year as a defender, Ratugolea been very mediocre IMO, given taken with pick 43 in 2016 think pick 24 is good return for someone wanting out.

A two clubber who doesn't want it enough for me

Very appealing.

I know it’s sacrilege on here, but I think JVR is a tradeable asset provided we cover the KPF depth he provides.
An astute appraisal I heard of JVR doubted he’d ever be a tier 1 forward due to the lack of goal scoring in general play. He’s a lead> mark/free> kick goal type of player. There’s not much of the opportunistic goal poaching or snaps from the boundary, etc.

Plays his role to aplomb for a kick, but I think we overrate his potential.

That's close to the biggest load of rubbish i have heard this year   "provided we cover the KPF depth he provides".

He provides everything that Macca was bringing just prior to us winning a flag. And he's Nineteen????

Any mug can see that without Kennedy dragging the best and often second best defender, Darling is a big ordinary KPF.

I wouldn't dismiss the idea of Darling.

If his head and body are right he's still a 40 goal forward.

van Rooyen is going nowhere, but it does open the possibility of the club doing a deal with Petty.

Petty for 10 and 14, or 10 plus McAdam...

Personally, I'd keep Petty but it makes the last few days very interesting.

6, 10, and 11 for ONE and Darling.

I think that WCE would want Darling's salary of $800k x 2 years off their books and so would view trading him favourably as a salary dump.

Oscar Allen was dragging the best and number 1 defender this year, not Darling.

Laurie will not make it, and so surplus to needs

Darling at 191 cms is not the big key forward player either, for example Petty, JUH and Allen all 197 cms .

At $800k, Darling holds negative trade value.

Yep, WC getting 2 x $800k off their books for a cooked player is a bonus for them, it's not giving up something of value. Would be like us offering BBB, Tmac and 6 for pick 1

If this story is true, how's the disrespect they are showing him with 2 years left on contract, 500 goals to his name and being a local boy with established fam. It'd be akin to killing bambi

Certainly if we have Kozzie, Spargo, Chandler, ANB, Woey and McAdam, with AMW a possible still to come, it would be extremely hard for Laurie to get a game.

Darling is now a hack.  I could see him having one more decent year and kick 40 goals if his body was right, but I have no real interest in recruiting him and agree that WC would want his salary off their books.

He'd purley be a mechanism for recruiting Reid.

But I also agree with others in that there's little point getting pick one at the expense of Petty.  I'd keep Petty and van Rooyen, as they're too important in a premiership quest.

I'd reluctantly consider trading WA boy Rivers to get pick one.

Do I like Rivers ?  Absolutely, but Reid will be a competition star.  These are the sorts of deals you have to consider to perhaps get your hands on a generational type player.

6, 11, plus Rivers ?  Hmmm.  West Coast fans wouldn't think it would be enough.  They'd want a F1 thrown in also.

While Dees fans would think it's too much, because most supporters can't remove emotion and therefore their thinking isn't their strong suit.

I reckon 6 and Rivers would do the trick. But it won't happen.

If they think they can get Curtin with 6, and they get Rivers for 'free', then yep.

Curtin going at 6 is the only way I see us being able to tempt West Coast anyway, unless of course it was JVR and 6 + 11 or whatever.

With the long term contract signed by  Naughton at the Dogs, where would that leave natural KF Ugle Hagan in their forward set-up? They already have Bruce, Darcy, Lobb .. they have surplus.
I know we have Jefferson in the wings, but if we’re seeking a young KF who has many strings to their bow, Ugle Hagan would be ideal to prise away at a cost. But the benefits would be huge.

And he'd be taken under Melky's wing, too?

(apologies to Jake 😁)

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front.  They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
