I know it doesn't work this way given the potential & hype surrounding Reid but it's a like for like points swap....

1 >  3000

6 & 11 > 3080

You should have stopped after “I know it doesn’t work this way”

Lets hope it wasn’t just to perk me up a bit.. keep an eye on the headlines folks!

So.... What was this about?

Oh well, if wishes were horses.  Just throwing it out there.

I still think Norf are a last minute chance to to attempt the swap.

There's also talk of the Hawks attempting it as well but i haven't checked their hand.

The first round picks for a kid?

Pick 33 for a 2x AA ruckman

It's getting ridiculous now.

Pick 33 for a 29 yo player who spent half the season in the VFL and is no longer required seems like overs.

If 6 and 11 and F1 doesn't interest WC maybe it might interest NM to trade P3. We can throw in a F2 instead of F1.

Without mentioning sources etc, I have been told Shane McAdam and Fogarty has been suggested by the dees for a round 1 selection. No me tion of what pick was to be utilised or multiples

Wouldn’t mind recruiting Fogarty, even if it’s for only 1 game. The return game against Collingwood, get home to smother a Brayden Maynard kick.

I don’t think they will. They want the quality players ant the top end and are probably competing for the same players we are eyeing off.

North have been vacuuming players  for the past couple of years and their list turnover is all but complete. For them it’s all about quality not quantity.

WC however need more players and will need to be enticed to trade. I think 5,14 and F1 is overs but probably what it takes they also need to get over Curtin and do the trade with us 😂

You mean, like, the Jackson trade (pick 15, 6 and 25)? Or a measly 2nd rounder for Langdon. BBB cost us little, too

Cheer up Red!

I did say often, not always.

I seem to recall most were disappointed on DL when the LJ trade went through, with the result. We are lucky that Freo bombed this year, as it could have been 15 not 6, for example.

I think there has been an acknowledgment on DL generally, that we are just happy to get deals done, trying to have both sides happy, win/win. I am not knocking this, but simply stating the fact.

We know how the Bells and Dodoros operate on the other hand, but they also seem to get their deals done too.

I understand that a slightly better pick might not guarantee a better end result I was just making the point on the difference in method.

Btw, Nudge did say on 22/9/23 we were out of the race for 4, a couple of weeks before it came true and Dogs got it.

So well done Nudge.

That is why the Reid swap makes more sense for North & WC imv.

WC would be crazy not to do some sort of deal.  They need a spread and some depth.  They have virtually zero of both at the moment and committing to Reid feels like a miss managed outcome (given where their list is at), even if he's the next Judd/Dusty.

North also get back a player that won't be interested in going home and may be the equivalent (or possibly better) than JHF.

Pretty sure it was about trading Oliver.... which makes me question how that would make you feel warm inside as when I heard I broke down into cold sweats and wrapped myself up in a little ball in the corner

That makes sense from an overs POV

Pick 3 > 2,234

Picks 6 & 11 (plus steak knives) > 3,080

However North would most likely have specific targets in mind with 2 & 3 already.

Also, from what i've read on here and from some scribes, 11 doesn't seem all that attractive in this draft yes?

apologies to RPFC in advance

What is Jarrod Witt’s or big o or similar player (top 5-10 ruck in comp worth)

grundy played vfl because Gawn is better, that doesn’t mean he isn’t worth anything.

Petty to Crows rumoured for 10, 20 and McAdam.

If Petty is keen;

I would ask for 10, Fogarty or Tilthorpe and McAdam

Adelaide would receive Petty and a 2nd round pick from the Dees.

You'd ask for what?

The difference is GC and Brisbane aren't trying to offload them. Required players obviously hold more value.

They lost me at 'Petty has struggled to cement his spot in Melbourne's team early in his career as a key defender'.

Is this the same Harry Petty that won a premiership at 21 as a key defender or is there a different Harry Petty?

If we got creative, 10, 20 and McAdam for Petty could be a great investment for the future. Especially if we got a stop-gap player in the meantime..

Supporters always fear the worst and get super emotional over these sorts of deals. Only because there's no way of seeing the future outcome of the deal and fear of the unknown is a real thing lol.

But what it'd allow us to do as far as move up the draft again and/or take on a Haynes contract with GWS first pick or something of the like. (the possibilities are many).

I don't mind it.

In my mind, we've got to give something to get something to move forward. I rate Petty really highly. But not more than a serious rejig of our list in general. And sometimes these decisions need to be made in order to stay there-abouts over multiple campaigns.

And if we want to see sustained success, these are the kind of list management decisions that need to happen. Hard one. But if what is reported is true, that's a seriously good offer for one player.

I'd do it for sure.

I think we need Petty next year whether he plays forward or back - he’s too good to be letting go now.  We can’t afford to lose another key player like that in particular. If we are still challenging for premierships, it’s too early to let him go and upset the apple cart that much.

I'd have a throw at the stumps, but the momentum seems to have switched to WC taking Reid (unless North cough up picks 2 & 3 - I wouldn't pay that and wouldn't think Roos would either).

If WC hold on to 1, we could see if North want to split pick 2 or 3.  Who knows, if that happens maybe North then split pick 6 with Eagles (who would get Curtin) and get WC's future first and our 11 in that scenario, which could have some appeal. North have so many chips we might be able to get something else back in any potential split.

6&11 for 3 to get in front of Haw to select Duursma???

Good idea Jimmy, we could trade away Trac as well for NM picks to really reset ourselves with a bunch of kids who may or may not succeed.

Im being facetious of course but in my view you don’t trade away really good players to punt on draft kids. That doesn’t improve you.

IMO Petty is untradable this year unless there is some really pressing family reason for him to go interstate.

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
