Alright. Let's compromise.

A draw for the lions.

And Port get smashed by the cats and the 75% of the footy media air time is absorbed with questions like how much impact did the Allir stuff have, are port unravelling, will Kenny now nor get resigned, etc etc.

Even with a close loss, Fox set the tone vis a vis Port after the game, by (probably rightly) discussing their injury list and outs. They maintained that they weren't worried by Port's form slump and they just needed to get healthy again (Brad Johnson).

They've lost 4 games in a row, mounting injuries and are 3 weeks out from finals. Get real, they're in big trouble.

Haven’t heard a single commentator mention that we’ve been playing and winning without Oliver and Fritsch tho 🙄

Port did have a giant injury list yesterday. Geelong too are missing lots of key players and were absolutely horrific. Port should have won that.

Why at Marvel??

Because they are contracted to play 2-3 games there per season. I believe they approached the AFL several weeks ago trying to get the game moved to the G and have the Freo game rd 18 moved to Marvel. They cited maximising crowd capacity, truth be known Lions play well at Marvell.

It was the perfect result.

Port lost. Tough game that hopefully they struggle to come up from.

And the cats win, but at home really should have done so much more impressively.

Pick 3 is on!

Freo have Lions, WC, Port, Hawks

They need to lose all of them. 3/4 is likely but boy wouldn’t a derby loss be fantastic.

The Hawks have Doggies, Dees and Freo. If they win 2/3 or even 3/3 (No!!!), Freo drop to 3rd last!

The Hawks will bully the Doggies next week and I predict another upset, they’ll run out of legs against us by then rebound to overtake Freo on the ladder in the final round!

slim chance. I think the Hawks coughing up the win against the Tiges 2 weeks ago put paid to pick 3 for us.

Well, maybe we're at the point where we don't need to comment on the views of various Fox commentators because, like the old Channel 9 cricket commentary team, most of them are there because they once were top level VFL/AFL players rather than having any actual expertise (let alone doing any independent research/analysis) but...

Yes, obviously Port are going to be better with a healthier list but by then they're likely to be 3rd or 4th and having to play Away Qualifiers/Prelims in Brisbane or at the MCG. They're going to finish Top 4 but their task is so much harder than the Top 2 they were almost guaranteed 4 weeks ago.

But back to deathriding Fremantle, I'm happy to park the deathride today against Brisbane and in Round 23 against Port. In a perfect world they win those 2 and lose against West Coast in Round 22 & Hawthorn in Round 24 😀.

Pick 3 isn't on, especially after Fremantle do the right thing by Melbourne and beat Brisbane today 😀. The 2 out of 3 vs Fremantle 0 out of 4 scenario could work but Hawthorn would need to make up 9% on Fremantle (about 80 points differential), not helped by the fact they Hawthorn need to lose to Melbourne. Helping of course is that Hawthorn are playing Fremantle in Round 24.

My point was more that like The Australian newspaper did for years in politics, the Fox commentary (and 7), sets the tone for the AFL media narrative for the following week.

But you're right, it's irrelevant what they say.

Deathride suspended today. A Lions loss leaving us in second place more important than draft position.

Normal service to return next week.

Freo by 53 and ruining Brisbane’s percentage are more my requirements.

Feels good to support Luke Jackson's success again, if only for one game.

It’s far less stressful than barracking for Geelong.

I can’t get around this deathriding stuff.

We absolutely want Brisbane to lose. A flag and pick 6 is infinitely better than no flag and pick 4.

There's a one day amnesty on the death ride.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
