Looks like a substantial bit of bone. Not nice to have in ones ankle and may explain his lack of mobility.

Hopefully, we need him and another key forward, firing for the rest of the year.

Rough for Tom . Hopefully back to build some fitness and form 4-6 weeks out from finals. Could be required depending on injury and or form . He has been unlucky the past 2 years.

In other news clarry has an infected blister

Injury and Suspension List: Round 13

Clayton Oliver - Hamstring | Test
Luke Dunstan - Knee | Test
James Harmes - Suspension | 1 Week
Jake Bowey - Concussion | 1 Week
Harry Petty - Foot | 1 - 2 Weeks
Will Verrall - Pelvis | 1 - 2 Weeks
Kye Turner - Groin | 3 - 4 Weeks
Tom McDonald - Foot | 6 - 8 Weeks

This Petty injury is dragging on. He’s always a slow healer.
Hopefully back after the bye.

The language around Petty doesn't sound fantastic. Is listed as 1-2 weeks but Selwyn stated they will have more clarity about what his return will look like after that time.

At the time the club reported it came down to how quickly  the ligament healed.  May be some lingering challenge there.  Always sound3d a bit uncertain

No rush.  Tomo is a handy back up in the short term.

Need to get this one right as Petty's critical to our chances at the pointy end.

Situation seems dire - he missed the club’s golf day today.

Petty back in 1-2 matches the timeline we heard when it happened. I’m not worried. Get him right and he makes us better.

Bad news for TMac, but BBB is on the runway awaiting take off.

Latest injury update. No mention of BBB and he's featured in the training gallery so presume he's good to play at some level this weekend. Good to see Verrall back into main training and possibly playing this week as well.

I would hate to be the coach that tells Clarry he isn’t ready to play Thursday

Oliver doesn't have a leg to stand on if he is told he can't play.  He disobeyed doctor's orders and left hospital impacting his recovery thereby disadvantaging the team.

It is similar to breaking the rule of not drinking while injured for which players have incurred a suspension.  May comes to mind.

For that breach alone Oliver will be damn lucky if he doesn't get a club suspension or leadership group suspension.  He put himself before the team.

This is the hand Selwood kicked last year.

So several things are ailing Oliver,

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
