Don't look too much into it.

Certainly looked like that in the interview. He was short and looked like he wanted to get out of there asap.

Was bloody hilarious.

Nonsense. It is a semi-infinite range, which is completely valid.

Thanks for your positivity again, Roost. 🙄
Just maybe he has 6 more excellent games left in his foot - I for one hope so.

I would think so as well.  However, if he is not cooked... he may have timed his run well.  We're currently running into finals with our main swing man / forward (Petty) down and out... and intending to rely on Smith (who has never had much luck staying on the park).

TMac (who admittedly frustrates the bejesus out of me when playing) has the ability to play forward, back and has also relieved in the ruck previously.  We're only an injury or two away from needing me... who knows... if he gets it together in the VFL he may get called on anyway.

The list was his top 5 coaches this season. I can't remember exactly his criteria, it was a bit rubbery, but included overcoming injury and list strength,

As i noted i get why he would leave out Goodwin - creates some angst and some click worthy content.

And for what it's worth I'd have Mcrae top too - he has changed the way the game is played, something normally only premiership winning coaches do (eg Hardwick - and i would argue Goody too)

And i would have Voss and Kingsley in my top 5 as well.

I wouldn't have Mitchell in my top 5, but i see where he is coming from because i love that Mitchell is trying to develop a game plan that is the benchmark in 5 years time not following the current trend (Mitchell's words). And as Hodge said he took very gutsy gamble cleaning out his team of so many experienced players like Gunston.

But leaving Hodge's opinion aside, i really believe that as a broad generalization, Goody doesn't get the respect or credit he deserves, even on this forum.

Leaving aside previous years, goody has been brilliant this season:

  • Clear in his messaging (eg it's all about peaking in September, what the dees DNA and game looks like etc)
  • His tactical nous (eg Goody showed the competition how to beat the Pies, not Voss or Mitchell)
  • The changes he has implemented from their post 2022 review (eg player management, less rigid with roles)
  • Player management (eg bringing in Woey to get a taste of AFL footy),
  • Courage (eg dropping Grundy)
  • His preparedness to experiment (eg Petty forward)
  • His push back on silly media narratives (eg the baloney about our 'scoring and connection issues' = by the by, the Pies haven't scored more than 100 points since round 18)
  • And the way it now feels like we have multiple ways we can win, with different methods (eg fast, slow, all about attack, take away oppo strengths etc etc)
  • The third top 4 finish in three years (no mean feat)
  • The value of this approach is now becoming very clear, with the Pies having been worked out to an extent (as we were last year), but having no time to practice i game any significant game plan adjustments

Goody has been simply fantastic this season.

I understand he won't get the respect and credit he deserves from the media (unless of course we win the flag).

But i live in hope he gets the respect and credit he deserves on Demonland.

Just on Tom MacDonald…

6 weeks ago Melksham would have been the most likely experienced player to never play another game for us. Benny Brown has really only come good for about 20% of his time as a Demon. Sorry, I should have said ‘Premiership player’ Benny Brown. You get my point.

Opportunities exist if you can see them, and take them. Tom only needs to come good for a 6 week period. Never write off professional athletes who’ve been in the system as long as these blokes. They know what it takes.

I’d love him to play like he’d did in 21. It would appear his body is letting him down. I think he’s a long shot to discover any sort of form that gets him a game this year. Next year he’s 32?? Do we give him another go round or do we recruit a kid?

One aspect of his coaching that is not recognised is his capacity to make adjustments to the game at half time. Somehow he just tinkers with things - don't ask me how- and all of a sudden it "looks like a Melbourne game". Of course, many on here think he is a terrible game day coach but there are many games where we improve noticeably after half time (eg last Sunday).

The lure of a flag for a guy in his last season or two could produce some real magic. It seems to have done it for Melksham.
I’ll reserve my hopes until I see how he goes with Casey on Sunday. I hope he is moving freely and slightly faster than a glacier.

Mea culpa.  I was one of many frustrated by Goody’s game day coaching ….. but he actually turns out to be a lot better than any of us armchair critics.   Surprise that!

What do you reckon the plan is with Tmac? Given Petty out for the season, How many weeks in the 2s? Or does it depends how a possible Grundy re-integration goes

I hope it is 2 weeks at Casey to see if he his run back.  No loitering in the goal square.  He was fairly immobile in the firsts when playing.

Yep, probably requires an iffy Grundy performance.

Down at the Don't Give A Fig Club (yeah, next door to the other),  we dispose of the infinity problem by using the Indifference Index.  This is defined as 1/(Caring Index -1)

Not necessarily. The range of the square of all real numbers is real numbers greater than or equal to zero. The existence of a positive square does not imply the existence of a negative square.

Indeed, these would be "imaginary numbers".

Several mathematics professors have just stirred in the armchairs and allowed themselves a gentle smile.

It’s true. Also, to excuse our US brethren I’ve always chosen to accept their version as saying “Well I supposed I could care less… (but I don’t)”

Anyway to paraphrase Binners on the pod I just can’t wait to see Claz play footy again. Not so concerned about him being a goose in front of the camera. As an antidote, does anyone remember how in his debut game they pulled him up for an interview afterwards and he was absolutely flying!? Think we had a win and he was clean jumping out of his boots with excitement at how good it was to play AFL. I’ve searched for that footage but never found it again…

Skip the first 2 minutes of this clip and the last 30. One minute of good analysis of the difference with and without Oliver. Essentially, him coming back into the side (same as Grundy) should be to complement what we're already doing well without them, not to just go back to the way things were when we were 4th with them both in the side earlier in the year.

Well that clip is full of it.

So no doctor has ever had an injury not respond as predicted? So they should have predicted the infected foot and the setback?

And on their figures, he obviously should be a Casey Player.......

...... Full of it

Yes, that was my little joke (Rumpole of the Bailey).

Thanks by the way on the info on Fritter - can't wait to see him back.

Surely one of the most underrated players in the AFL given he the top goal scorer in an premiership team and again last year, in team that finished the home and way season in second spot.

Little jokes are fun, especially midweek.

It is amazing.

I know you are talking forwards, but to that list we can add clarry, a generational talent, and top 5 in the AFL, for half a season.

Petty for half a season.

Salem for half a season.

And Maxy for 3 games.

I heard hodge today on sen.

He gave his top five coaches in the afl, using a formula of his own creation (including over coming having key players out injured).

His top 5?

1. Mcrae (he mentioned mcstay  as a key out)

2. Kingsley

3. Hinkley

4. Mitchell

5. Voss

Whateley, who said a couple of times if you dont like the list make your own, said his list had the same names.

I get it, controversy creates clicks and that's the purpose of such lists.

But c'mon.

Hodge is one of the worst special comments person ever - can't put 2 words together and only says the bleeding obvious.

He has a really peculiar speech pattern where he finishes sentences dropping a tone making him sound apologetic (if that makes sense).

Not great for any job involving speaking to an audience.

But he has clearly been coached to address it, which is great, and i have been enjoying listening to him attempt to action his 'learnings'.

That's fair enough to hold that view, if that's how you feel, that's how you feel.

Obviously, i have made it abundantly clear i hold a different view and do care what is said about my club in the media. And becuase this is football forum i choose to post about it.

Which is surely ok too is it not?

As many posters who share your perspective on this topic have, quite reasonably, pointed out to me, if it annoys me so much stop reading, watching or listening to the media.

Respectfully, i think that advice also applies to the posters, such as yourself, who, ironically, feel the need to constantly note their frustration about posters expressing their frustration with the media.

I'm going to continue to post my frustration with the media whenever i feel like it.

If my posts on the topic bother you, don't read them or simply put me on ignore.

Looking at the injury list this week I saw Disco is 1-2 weeks away. I haven't seen anything of him this year. What are people's thoughts on him getting a run before finals?

Obviously he's been out for awhile so not ideal, but I seem to recall he was ahead of Tomlinson in the pecking order for tall backs last year. Or was Tomlinson still recovering from his knee?

Amazing isn't it.. easily sucked in by media narrative.

Dead set, if they were ever going to be reincarnated again with an anima,l it definitely be a fish with the amount of bait they take so easily.
