Petracca, Oliver, Viney... cliff.

That's our midfield depth.

Doesn't matter who we bring in for Oliver (if required), they will be substandard.

A legacy of Goodwin riding the same players into the ground year after year and not developing our other mids.

Dunstan can get the pill but not sure about ball use and speed - evidently, Goody recruited him to play for Casey anyway.

Hope Clarry pulls up ok.

I'm watching Tom Mitchell for Collingwood being a completely different player.

They were bad last year in clearences and went and brought Mitchell in to fix this.

Poor Luke Dunstan who's a clearence specialist gets 42 disposal and 2 goals in a VFL game and Goody still refuses to play him because he's happy sticking with the same soliders each week who continue to get beaten around the stoppages.

Extremely tough break if Ralph is correct. Someone needs to step up now and time to dig in deep Demons.

The fact is no one will replace Oliver, and we have cover. The club may need to rethink our midfield set up. Sparrow, JJ, Harmes, Kozy (more time in the midfield may give him some form), Rivers, Brayshaw, Salem, ANB, Chandler, Dunstan etc etc can go through the midfield.

I like the idea of a tagging midfield with our flankers/wingers providing the drive. Back to the early season form with those with good skills kicking and running through the opposition in to a forward line that leads to the ball carrier.

Stop the continuous long kick down the line including kick ins.

I mean who am I to be dramatic or negative, but I feel like I’m just going to come out and say it.
We are cooked.

Next month will be a shambles and a window into the next few years unless Goodwin wakes the [censored] up and recruits another top mid in trade period.

There are 16 players who have plenty of room to lift 25-90% each!

And even if they lift by 845% they still won’t reach Clarry’s level of talent, skills or importance to our side.

Injuries happen. He is so durable and he will weeks in the middle of a season. The best time if we are to be a contender.

Also, can we just go and hunt the footy?

Typical Journo’s. Go early.

Love the ‘COULD’ aspect to this.

If right “you heard it hear first”

NFI as yet…..

Why couldn’t this happen during our stretch of playing cellar dwellers? Why now?

"Could be sidelined for up to a month" says Ralph.

Let's wait for something a bit more definitive from the club.  It might not be the catastrophe some are fearing.

Yep classic click bait. No doubt he's getting scans but this reads like a complete guess by Johnny boy.

Why the f did he get the green light to go back out there in Q4?

Own goal by us if it's significant

It sounds like we've already gotten the scans back.

Why didn’t we ‘manage’ our best players during that period?

More rhetorical questions…

Why did he even go back on? I would rather risk Bowey blowing a calf, than Oliver getting a grazed pinky.

Just reported it on 9 news as well

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
