From Simon Goodwin this morning.  Don't expect to see Salem this week.

Meanwhile, Goodwin said rebounding half-back Christian Salem (knee) faced more time on the sidelines, but fellow defender Michael Hibberd (managed) was expected to return against the Hawks.

Salo needs more hype, he will compliment our defenders perfectly. I suspect it will take him 2-3 weeks to have him fit and ready for the firsts.

He is the perfect person to step into Hibbos role, whose body is not holding up well this year.

IMO this is the ideal mix...

Petty May McVee/Bowey

Rivers Lever Salem

This group is a great mix of youth, class and toughness. With Salo adding even more clean ball use to the mix.

Except Hibbo was magnificent on Saturday evening

Will not be dropped n that performance in my view Salem needs to prove through the VFL for 2 or  games remembering he was ill and under-performing prior to his injury

Doesn't Verrall have a history of hip/pelvis problems?

No history of hip/pelvis issues. He came down hard in a pre-season practice match and sustained the injury.

Just on the whole pelvic bone injury, surgery and recovery. Poor bugger. Would that mean no banging until 100% better?

Chatted to Will during Sleep at the ‘G and while I didn’t ask him specifically about his *banging capabilities, I did ask him if his injury and subsequent surgeries etc. see him still hampered in any way. He said he is doing everything to the same extent as he was pre-injury.

* I asked him important questions like what sort of shampoo and conditioner he uses. If anyone’s wondering, his answer was “whatever’s there at the time.” Pfft teenage boys… no idea. 🙄

not sure it is a good idea to ask a teenage boy about his banging capacity.

Ideally Salo comes back in and allows Gus to play in the middle.

Hibbo will need to be managed throughout the year, and Riv, Bowey and McVee are all in great form, selectors will have a lot of trouble squeezing in all that talent into the backline. I also think we're doing a much better job at bringing our players back from injury so I only expect Salem to really need one VFL game to have him ready for the firsts.

Here's an interesting thought deeves. What if Gus stays back and Salo gets some midfield time when he returns?

He played through some significant groin issues last year which had a huge impact on him sliding out to the rookie draft.

The club nursed him through the pre season as there was still some lingering issues there to manage.

Poor kid, watched him against St Kilda in the second game and he was very impressed. Took a couple of good strong contested marks.

Thanks Mr or Mrs gentle refreshing  light breee. I definitely want Rivers in the middle more often but Salo there could be interesting. One of the things I do like about CS in defence is how often he finds a teamate so accurately by foot .

Strongly agree Dazzle his injuries last year made it possible for us to pick him up as a Rookie if we can get him back to full fitness he could surprise.!!

I’m amazed his head stayed on his neck, that’s usually the first thing that goes. Clumsy people (me) shouldn’t be allowed to have bobble heads. I’ve had to repair every single one I own, a couple of them twice. The above is the worst I’ve had to deal with; no problem gluing him back together, but I can’t find his missing leg anywhere. All good though, I’ve got another Kozzie and this one is still in one piece.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
