Injury List: Round 4

Josh Schache - Concussion | Test
Daniel Turner - Ribs | Test
Joel Smith - Thumb | 3 Weeks
Max Gawn - Knee  | 3 - 4 Weeks
Taj Woewodin - Finger  | 4 Weeks
Christian Salem - Knee | 4 - 6 weeks
Will Verrall - Pelvis  | 8 - 10 Weeks

Even though Ben Brown has been cleared to play at the weekend, it’s still up in the air as to whether the club would take him on both upcoming interstate fixtures.

We also have a couple potential Mystery Injuries of the Week. Track watcher kev martin has reported that Michael Hibberd has an Achilles and young ruckman Kyah Farris-White was also in the rehab group with him.

Still prefer our list to that of our opponents this week.

Slightly left of centre: Why are grounds now made to be as hard as tennis courts. The soft grounds I played on last century made bouncing the ball tempting fate. No one got hurt hitting their head on the ground... Oh wait, Springvale.

But still, why are the grounds so hard now?

The G looks a bit harder, probably still recovering from the Sheeran gig, hopefully some others in the know can help out. Very rarely a need for long stops anymore it seems.

I really hope Hibbo gets up. He's still a quality player.

Maybe TV and Sportsbet prefer it that way.   “Game day experience” is far more important than the game, apparently.

Maybe the club wants to hold its cards close to its chest but I would’ve liked a more thorough injury report this week. No mention of Hibbo, who Goodwin mentioned had a sore achilles in his presser so it’s hardly a secret, Woey who is listed as 4 weeks between the AFL club site and ours which is a lot less than the 6-8 weeks last week, Farris White, Turner and Verral all not mentioned. There’s between 7-10 players to talk about there, it wouldn’t have been hard to be a touch more thorough. Thrilled about Gawny though, I reckon he’s aiming at Anzac eve.

Is there any more information re:

1/ Farris Wright’s injury and ETA

2/ Will Verrell pelvic fracture.  How and when did it happen?  Pelvis fractures usually require a huge force. I can only recall a couple of players who had this and played again. There was a high draft pick a decade or so ago ?Beau someone who had a car crash and eventually played and of course Majak’s big fall from which he recovered enough to play.

Club doctor said Verrall has bone stress in his pelvis.

I think Campbell Brown had one late in his career as well from a knee to that area.

How do you treat a stress fracture in the pelvis?

How do you treat bone stress?
How long does it take for a pelvic bone stress fracture to heal?

Pelvic fractures usually take 8 to 12 weeks to fully heal. More severe pelvic fractures could take longer, especially if you have other injuries or medical complications from the event that caused your pelvic fracture.8 Dec 2021

The Herald Sun’s article on yesterday’s game vs West Coast has this kiss of death section on Jake Lever:

An ankle injury to Jake Lever early in the fourth term is unlikely to stop to cause the defender to miss next week’s Gather Round.

Lever limped from the ground after laying a tackle on West Coast’s Connor West.

Before Sunday, Lever was the only player to have played every second of every quarter of the opening three rounds.

You can take it to the bank that just as Ben Brown was cleared earlier last week to play in yesterday’s game and then ruled out, Jake will not play against the Bombers in Adelaide. My tip is that Harry Petty goes back to defence and Adam Tomlinson also gets picked to play in the Gather Round. Michael Hibberd also a likely out after he was replaced due to his Achilles playing up as well.

I haven’t seen any reports of any training at the club but the AFL site has listed all clubs’ injuries. From the section allocated to Melbourne, I’ve gleaned the following:

Injury List: Round 5

Ben Brown - Back  | TBC
Joel Smith - Thumb | 2 Weeks
Max Gawn - Knee  | 2 - 4 Weeks
Taj Woewodin - Finger  | 4 Weeks
Christian Salem - Knee | 4 - 6 weeks
Will Verrall - Pelvis  | 7 - 9 Weeks

That leaves out any mention of Michael Hibberd who was said to have been subbed off with an Achilles injury last Sunday and Jake Lever who looked as if he sustained a possible ankle injury late in the game. Also Kye Turner missed at Casey in the local derby on Sunday and we’re all hopeful of an early James Harmes return from personal leave.

Watch this space.

Different to this...! Interesting to note Dr Laura said on the recently uploaded injury video, that Taj was a chance to be available for this week should his check up go well....

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

POSTGAME: Rd 10 vs West Coast

Many warned that this was a danger game and the Demons were totally outclassed all game by a young Eagles team at Optus Stadium in Perth as they were defeated by 35 points.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
