MFCSS tells me that the ease with which we were able to win said more about Brisbane’s ineptitude than our brilliance, but obviously, I hope I’m wrong. However, wherever the ‘balance’ lies, a win like that must be a huge fillip for our confidence going into finals. I seem to remember similar questions being asked after our first final last year, and yet we followed it up by smashing initially Geelong in the Prelim, and then overwhelming the Dogs in the Grannie, each time being more and more dominant. l suspect this has mostly to do with how the team is managed fitness-wise, even though it is a worry for us supporters as we go through this load sharing in the second half of the year which seems to result in inexplicable losses. l now have confidence that our team management knows what they are doing, particularly after the win last weekend. I’m sure BinMan will expand on this further in this evening’s podcast. His insights have been very re-assuring for the “doubting-thomases” like myself. 2 1 Quote

Guest Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Hey Andy If you have time tonight can you please stress the importance of attendance. I know we have a “Fill the ‘G” thread, and this isn’t directed at anyone who can’t go for a valid reason, but it’s now more than ever that we need people to show up. It’s a great way to thank the boys for working so hard to secure a home final for us. ❤️💙 Quote

Altona-demon 321 Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 (edited) Can I please ask a question of tonight's pod crew. " Have we shown our hand too early? It was clear from the game that the Dees were playing a different style of attack going into forward 50 and also exiting defensive 50 (shock horror May kicked to different points of the ground often to Langdon's wing). On numerous occasions entering f50 we took the dangerous inboard kick into leading lanes (vis-a-vis our usual mode of operation kicking into the pocket for contest). Does this help or hinder us? Or was it a good chance to give it a hit out before we deploy the similar style against Sydney? " Edited August 22, 2022 by Altona-demon 2 1 Quote

If TMac is taken off the injury list in a week or two is he a realistic consideration for the finals campaign? My heart says yes, my head says no (lack of match practice/ fitness). I am not even sure if there is a pathway or even time to consider progressing him through the VFL. It may also be dependent on who we are playing. And, if he is selected, who does he replace? What are your thoughts? I think we definitely need another tall forward. If TMac doesn’t come up l think we should seriously consider van Rooyen. He can also ruck. He has shown outstanding form at Casey lately and will be an important player for us in the future, and we have shown we are prepared to throw rookies into the deep end in finals very successfully (aka Bowey last year). Worth considering l think….what about you guys? Quote

Stu 1,075 Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 I’m sure you’ll cover this in the review of the game, but the kick to players leading towards our goal was used very successfully. This allowed the forwards to stay inside 50 and then lead up to the player with the ball sitting 70-80 metres out. It’s not commonly used by any teams and seems to be a point of difference we might employ in this finals series. 1 Quote

But I’m sure there’s a number of ppl who aren’t going because it clashes with another event. I’m by no means blowing my own trumpet and I know everyone’s different in terms of commitment, but you wouldn’t believe what I’ve *bailed on in order to attend a match, on three occasions this year. Moreover, one such occasion was at that freezing, fetid cesspool, Kardinia Park!!! *Mum’s lamb roast over a date with Tom Cruise is nothing in comparison. 😁 Edited August 22, 2022 by WalkingCivilWar Quote

Deeoldfart 8,205 Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 This is the first time I can recall a Pod thread running ‘hot’ to the point of boiling. Really looking forward to tonight’s episode. 2 1 2 Quote

Deeminion 412 Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Petracca seems to be playing a lot of time forward in the past few weeks. Are we saving him to be unleashed in September? Is it to give Gus more midfield minutes? Does anybody have the time forward stats for Trac in the past few weeks? I'm not complaining as he managed to hit the scoreboard twice. 1 Quote
Dee Zephyr 19,326 Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 A Couple of minutes on Kozzie if you could gents. 15 goals in the first 11 rounds, 23 in the last 11 rounds with 18 of those 23 coming in the last 6 rounds which arguably was the hardest part of our fixture. Not many of us have seen finals at the G since 2018. If he carries this form into September us Melbourne supporters will be in for some treat, he's been sublime. 4 2 Quote

This use of the sub isn't something we've really seen from Goody this year. Will we see more use of the "super sub" in September? (Might be a question for next podcast) IIRC, JJ’s “workrate in attack” is no. 1 in the AFL across the season. I’m very bullish on JJ, and think he’s easily best 22…..but based on Friday’s performance I can’t decide for who. 2 Quote

layzie 34,528 Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 Questions: - Is it dangerous to be jumping the gun on how we potentially fit T-mac back into this team? - The Swans are an outstanding running side and they will likely run at our defenders and not hoof it into the 50. What are the main things we need to be aware of when defending in transition against the Swans on the open spaces of the G? Will it mainly be about the pressure we bring or are there some other things worth noting? 1 Quote
