Turner needed to go down the guts there

The problem with this dork commentator is he's doing it by himself and has to come up with twice as much crap. Not a recipe for success

Top of the square Laurie surely 🤔

The commentator is nowhere near as [censored] as our midfield.

Fair call

Perhaps this is an example of quick sharp loading pre finals?

That’s full time and a 14 point defeat for the Casey Demons.

I don’t love the way he plays but they really missed Jimmy Munro today. 6 day break after a slog in the wet probably a factor too.

The time to win the game was the back half of the second when they had the scoring end and momentum and they gave it all back

Very disappointing.  Casey looked lethargic, some of them completely disinterested at times.  Nobody put a hand up for a senior gig imo, and that includes several who had a real opportunity to stake a claim.

Was thinking the same thing but for most the promotion bus passed by around 3-4 weeks ago.

JVR, was good.

Not convinced there was anyone really staking a claim from the Casey side today. JJ’s the only one who’s been a first choice part of the side and he played a very JJ game.

The sub role and depth spots are up for grabs I guess

Fair point, but there's still a sub role potentially up for grabs, as well as possible injury replacements (heaven forbid).

7 minutes ago, whatwhat say what said:

jj and jvr the only ones staking their claim today

plugger mac back for minimum three quarters next week

Agree ......... our AFL team is probably close to settled right now (barring injury). I thought JVR was good for a half (leaving the other potential KPFs in his wake).  JJ looked quite proppy to me.

Agree

Also Chandler and Bedford will look back on that VFL bye followed by presumably covid the next week and wonder...what if.

Wonder if Salem will play VFL next week (hopefully good weather)

Weideman has been poor at best. Looks like a man who knows his career is done

Why would he think his career is done at 25 and with another year on his contract?

Last week he was outstanding in tough conditions, clearly the best tall KPP on the ground.

I can’t believe the footy club hasn’t already given him a solid block of training & games at CHB.

Bulldogs supporters were saying exactly the same things about Liam Jones and he goes to Carlton and they turn him into an AA CHB.  McCartin looked a million miles off it as a Key Forward at the Saints even when he was actually playing, now he’s in AA discussions as a Key Defender.

Weideman is such a really good person and the Club invested so much with an early Pick, I believe it is crazy not to try everything to give him a chance at success.

Don’t disagree but when you have May, Petty & Lever as A grade key defenders and Tomlinson as a very good backup , it’s hard to see why or how we would try the Weid as a CHB.

Agree JVR was good for a half, and our best KPF by a long way.

Weid, M.Brown and J.Smith should have shown a lot more today, just to stake a claim as 'next cab off the rank' should they be needed.  Weid probably holds pole position for that role right now, but gee .........

My view is that players should be playing other roles at VFL level than their natural position. Not all the time but say one half every two games.

The VFL comp is not about winning it's about discovering and developing players. Winning is very much second.

Reminds me of the medal they used to give to the best VFL reserves player prior to the AFL. A commentator said it's a good medal to win but you never want to win it twice.

Well, you might consider moving Petty forward.

Heavens forbid, the two Adelaide teams realise they should be offering Petty 5 years on big money as opposed to Isaac Rankine and we lose him.

May & Lever are getting older and could be better managed.

I’m not convinced that Tomlinson is very good back up.

And finally, if he succeeds at CHB, his trade value would be greater if that's what ends up happening.

Was definitely one of the best players on the day and handy in patches but not sure he played THAT well GW.

Still a few question marks surrounding execution/decision making with ball in hand IMHO as well as positioning at the contests.  Continues to get pushed off the ball relatively easily at times as well.

He's a pretty solid, reasonably experienced fella that just doesn't hit in hard enough / impose himself often enough (even at that level) for mine.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
