Few senior players braving the conditions in the stands including Dogga. For a guy seemingly on the way out he does still seem very invested.

He is an odd unit. Very active on the Instagram reposting Melbourne stuff too.
Has he checked out? Or is he genuinely just vague?

Great goal Smith. I would seriously consider bringing him to play as a “tall” forward. He could cause some chaos, which is bad in the backline but could be good up forward.

Smith is having a great game so far, he’s second efforts and forward pressure is something I wish for weids to have.
If he continues to have a great game then he needs to come in next week. We need something different up forward

I know I’m probably very behind, but is that Jake Spencer rucking?

Brought in by Casey apparently when Daw retired, but had a calf injury I believe so this is his first game.

Yes we do. JVR is showing nothing in this game. So yes, Smith.

Tomlinson and Bowey are a class above this level.

If you ever want to a game that illustrates:

a) the value of small forwards

b) the reason not to pack a team with ordinary talls

c) Why Harmes is in the 2’s

then this is it

Interesting first half.

The conditions don't suit forwards today, but having watched the first half pretty closely the pick out of the forwards has been Joel Smith. His work rate has been impressive.

Harmes and Dunstan can’t get any separation at the clearances. Laurie (stuck forward) and White should be given the hit outs.

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
