Rightly or wrongly, our coaching group love consistency in the senior team and dislike resting players, so I don’t think he’s a good fit.

He is just about done .

Anything 500k plus is way overs

Nope, too old, not a big overhead mark not what's needed, bring back Ross Dillon or Greg Parkes instead of him....

No, our best is Fritta who also has 34 goals for the season.

You’re right… how on earth did I miss that?? Unfortunately the edit function is only available for a limited time, so I’m going to have to live with the humiliation that goes with my oversight 🤣

Would love him, but we can't afford to pay him over our young guys coming through.

would only be if we can get him for that $500k mark

I think we just have to back JVR as our next tall forward coming through and recruit a decent back up ruck/forward option.

Greg sadly passed away not long ago.

Or two.

Surely after the swans took a massive risk signing him for 10 years he couldn't complain about money.

Pretty sure he has earnt enough over his career.

It was but gee he could take a hanger.

Just trying to maximise his super. No thank you.

Management bluff. He won't leave the Swans. AFL won't let it happen. They'll cough up the difference if need be - 'ongoing marketing allowance'

This. Helped by a compliant, unquestioning Herald Sun which is prepared to claim that he might retire rather than sign up for what is claimed to be a low-ball offer. Really? Buddy would retire rather than accept an offer of at least $250,000 and probably more like $400,000 to $500,000? Give me a break!

It’s Greg Parke not Parkes. Terrific contested overhead mark, hands like glue but very slow on the ground and horribly inaccurate kick. But gave us some hope up forward on many gloomy Saturday afternoons.

Did they really play on Sat afternoons or was it just a wistful dream ?

Buddy a Demon are you serious?

Kelvin Templeton and all those other chronically injured transfer players that came across to the Dees, where are you? More to the point, where are the geniuses responsible for those recruiting decisions. Got our hopes up until they ran onto the ground in a Melbourne jumper and we realised that we had bought a lemon or a bag of lemons.

Buddy’s a great of the game- no doubt about it, but we’re not a team that needs to recruit a player at the end of his career!

Just as Uncle does not need a maid at the end of her career. .

Perhaps so Ernie but training a new one ……. a different matter entirely.

Can't imagine our standards allowing one player to not train, all the while being paid more than most on the list. However, as a playing-forward coach, two years to teach JVR... it's a tempting thought

Buddy will be 36 next January.

About half my age - so could I demand $300k?

Like everything, depends on cost and fitting the culture.   I very much doubt ifBuddy would be happy playing second fiddle, a specially at Casey, for peanuts.

The VFA belting the living daylights out of each other.  Grand days!

Id get him if we only had to pay by the goal and or game, no way would I sign him without massive clauses round performance, if he wants 700k fine but he needs to play 22 games and kick 50

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
