Diamond_Jim 12,773 Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 Unlikely though it seems I think TMac's performance in the VFL tomorrow will strongly influence Grundy's future for this season at least 1 Quote

How is it up to him? There is a contract in place. If we want him, we keep him. We need him. If Gawn was to go down (again) who have we got? JvR no. TMac useless as a ruckman. No one at Casey. Quote

Agree if Grundy was anything but a ruckman. We can cover every other position on the ground. For the games that Max missed who would have rucked? 1 Quote

A young first year kid who tries his guts out every week and does well considering he's still developing. All our four key fwds out injured. Every club would struggle under this. And as for Melksham he's either on or off and explains why he's been in the Magoo's for two years. Schache isn't up to it either. That's five of them not in the picture. It's a pretty tough situation for any club. Unless Fritta comes back and fires I can't see us winning a flag. And even if he does it Will still be tough without another key tall. We have a great backline but they can't do it all. Maybe the club should have done more when Bbb and Tmac showed signs of injury and form drop but it's hard to fight dumb luck sometimes. Quote
leave it to deever 17,618 Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 I am over the Grundy experiment. We just can't afford to have a ruckman or forward who struggles to mark. It's fundamental skill of the game. He's good at tap work and below his knees but marking always takes precedence. And you can't train it into someone. 5 Quote

For the games that Max missed who would have rucked? Schache with JVR as the chop out. That combo would be no better or worse than Grundy at this point in a ruck sense. Probably better as we would have ourselves a capable forward who can kick a goal or two most games. Grundy lucky to score one goal every other game. He isn't a part-time forward and not sure why the FD keep talking about trying to improve his game here. Very average player all round now post injury. Has minor moments where he looks reasonable but that's it. Ppl need to get over the fact that he's some sort of 'impact' player or will turn into one. His AA days are well behind him unfortunately. Didn't impress in his two matches at VFL level yet still got a call up. Very costly recall last night and poor selection given the conditions. Probably cost us the game imo. wisedog 352 Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 (edited) At this point last season, Goodwin locked in Jackson and Gawn alternating forward at the expense of a 2nd permanent key forward. It really never looked potent enough but Goodwin persisted with it until 5 minutes were left against Brisbane when he swung Petty forward. It was much the same last night with Grundy and Gawn. I don’t know where that leaves Grundy - whether Goodwin is bold enough to leave him out next week and whether we can afford to keep him in the same side with one of TMac or Brown. It’s a tough situation. Really, the only clear positive is that if Gawn goes down, we know we have top tier insurance. Edited August 13, 2023 by wisedog Quote
Diamond_Jim 12,773 Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 Four tall forwards injured and one ineffectual in any form of crowd. Not our year guys bbb being injured today after a bye doesn't auger well even for those of us who are desperate. TMac might provide some definition to the forward structure but I doubt that we can expect the TMac of old 1 Quote
rpfc 29,030 Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 Um, I think my views are quite known when it comes to the Grundy Experiment but we are going to play a QF for a chance to have a home PF… So things are not as bleak as some seem to think… 1 Quote

Get on board ffs. Its not our year... until we win the QF and suddenly it might just be again? Edited August 13, 2023 by John Demonic Quote

Run and skilled delivery at chest level to a leading small forward with Mihochek providing the taller marking option on the lead We can dream but it's never been in our gameplan Quote
darkhorse72 1,943 Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 Despite all his attributes he brings to the game. He doesn’t fit into our current structure when you compare to the alternate forwards, we really missed petty last night and Grundy is not even close as a forward. 1 Quote
beelzebub 23,392 Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 It's just a bit of a suspicion but I think Grundy's been a tad 'Melburnised' He doesn't seem to play with the same dash and dare he did at the Filth. Its as though he's trying to do too much that's not quite him. E.g. coming through the guts he hand passes ( hospital varietal) when he should have eyed up an entry kick into the fifty..noy necessarily at someone but where they could run onto. Just one instance...but there were others. Always doing the seeming 'team' thing.. I want players to do the "best" thing...according to the moment. Am not slighting him as i feel he's constrained... jmo. Quote
