For those wanting to know who the KPF Melbourne is after.  Its Mitch Georgiades.  We have super currency next year.  2 firsts and 3 second round draft picks when Mitch is out of contract.  We will continue to go hard for him.  As I said before, the club thinks they can get him.  They think he and JVR are the two-pronged KPF for the future.  No doubt if Mitch is unattainable, they will look elsewhere for the medium-term missing piece of the puzzle.

Again, congratulations to the recruiting team.

Not sure why come out with this now? We’re we trying to get him this trade period? 
 

Maybe it leaves the door ajar for Kozzy to get there. But the out of contract does us some favours.

I wonder after our trades this year and potential retirements next year, whether we have enough. Fingers crossed.

    It's not quite over yet

    Teams can still trade draft picks (not players, obviously) from now right up until the National Draft

    And that would include future picks

    So pick 37 might not be done and dusted if we decide to bundle that pick with a F2 to acquire say, a pick in the early 20's in this year's draft

    That may or may not happen but it can happen

    This really helps to paint an overall "big picture" of the Melbourne Demons' AFL list and where we sit regarding list management and draft picks.

    I am going to take back my grumbling about MFC List Manager Tim Lamb (I listened to his interview with SEN Radio) regarding the Luke Jackson trade. In the end, we got the best deal that we could of due to the circumstances. Overall, we should be in a strong position for this year's draft as well as next year's draft too.

    Fingers crossed we can obtain some good young recruits with draft picks 13# and 37#. 🤞

     

    My only question is......will draft pick 37# end up being a pick in the late 20's or early 30's due to Brisbane banking up on draft picks so that they have enough points to obtain Father-Son pick Will Ashcroft with the number 1# pick in this year's AFL National Draft? 🤔

    Given the situation with Geelong being able to pay players less, which lets face it, is not simply because of 'lifestyle' and 'culture' but also because of that fact there is a significantly lower average cost of living in Geelong compared to all the other major Australia cities (between 10-24% lower according to this website: https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=Australia&country2=Australia&city1=Brisbane&city2=Geelong&tracking=getDispatchComparison).

    So surely on that basis Geelong ought to have a lower salary cap than all other teams,if the cap if meant to provide some form of equalization? Seems a no brainer for me and would be very similar to other types of companies and organizations that adjust salaries based on the the location of the job (and the associated cost of living).

    Schache costs less than Weideman.

    Melksham and Hibberd will take a pay cut to stay on allowing the club to pay more for Rivers and Pickett when their contracts expire.

    The club now has picks 13 and 37 to find gems for 2023 and beyond.

    The 2023 picks are 1st X 2 2nd X 2 and has been touted as better than the current crop.

    The only area were we have little cover is the Ruck where we need at least another 2 players maybe the rookie list will be used like they did in the past with Jamar and others.

    Hawthorn won their last flag as recently as 2015.  Incredibly, there is now only one player from that premiership team still on the list at the club and that is Luke Bruest.

    I was thinking we will probably look to fill one rookie spot with either a developing ruckman or a mature one as break glass back up.

    We reckon need to target an x factor small with one of our two picks this year in the ND and ideally a Hibberd replacement - unless we think Rivers or Woey are going to be that lockdown defender. Use the rookie list for a back up ruck and a developing ruck.

    The doggies situation is very interesting. Odd that so many players want out this trade period

    How close is Hunter to Naughton i wonder. Could we get in Naughtons ear and try to prise him away. Long long shot for sure but you never know. Worth a try

    The Tankfest was well on track from midyear now a full blown operation.

    Hope they dont go crying to the AFL about priority picks in a couple of years time when they have moved on premiership players, Brownlow medalists and they like.

    Karl Amon not a very ambitious bloke by the looks of things.

      The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

      A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

      The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
