Would love a re-signing announcement for Kozzie and JVR this off-season. Not keen on another circus like this year.

I would not be too optimistic re Kozzie unless Dees relocate to Adelaide.

With Grundy and no other changes it will be more of the same next year

So, whose fault is this bad news? Unless things are about to trickle, which is getting unlikely, we could possibly all see it happening weeks ago.

More Mega Deal talk

According to Callum Twomey the MEGA DEAL has been approved.

That cannot be right because Port are giving up F1, F2 and F2 and only getting F3 back, so they are still short F2, which was what the AFL refused to approve in the first place.  7 own the rights but know SFA, it's a disgrace.

Wow so Cadman is clearly a pipe dream now. It’s hard to see the forest through the trees but I just feel that we have slipped in this years trade period.

Giving 13 for Grundy will be the cherry on top.

Also if I’m a Norf fan, I’m spewing. Two pick 1s out for pick 2,3 and a F1(PA ~12-16). Haha what a [censored] deal.

Compare the pair:

JHF 1st year average mid = Pick 3 and a future first

Luke Jackson top flight ruck, premiership player, rising star= Pick 13 Future first, future second

I know pick 1 was involved and 2+ 40+43 doesn’t make up all of that but FMD.

JHF in contract, LJ out of contract - that's the big difference.  North could have just said "see you same time next year Port, when Adelaide won't already be committed to Rankine"

Just saw the full trade and Port are getting some later future picks back.

PORT ADELAIDE
Trade out: Picks No.8, 43, 53, 57, 2023 first-round pick, 2023 second-round pick, 2023 third-round pick
Trade in: Jason Horne-Francis, Junior Rioli, 2023 second-round pick (tied to Collingwood), 2023 future third-round pick (tied to Fremantle).

To me it looks a steal if Port get JHF and Rioli for pick 8 and a F1 around pick 9-12 and a pile of later picks with some back.  Points aside, they must be laughing!

Mega Trade

That was quick by JHF, thought he only decided on Port a week ago!

I don't mind the trade from North's perspective. For starters JHF never wanted to be there. Second, his on field form in 2022 was rather underwhelming. He had some good games and was overall pretty solid, but his form nowhere near matched the hype he came with. Daicos and Sam Darcy look like far better prospects from the first round. Rachele too IMO. Thirdly, the guy clearly has an attitude problem. It's pretty rare for those sorts to go on and become the very best players in the game. All in all I think he should have LOST value from 12 months ago but they end up with 2, 3 and an additional first round pick. Of course downgrading 1 isn't ideal but picks 2/3 often turn out better anyway and without the scrutiny.

West Coast the big losers here. Lost Rioli and pick 2 for pick 8 and 12? Seems bad. They must have a few good WA talents they want at those picks.

Port absolutely creamed this deal.

They've got word that those early picks which will be Vic kids, are pretty much flight risks.

Trade down is probably the right thing because they now have army access to a couple of WA boys.

these guys are clowns sometimes, Rankine won't be a free agent as it'll only be 3 years at his club, needs to be 6 to qualify for free agency so he'll just be an ooc player then not a free agent

Yep, turn pick 2 into Ginbey and Busslinger. Not a bad return if it works out that way for them.

A lot going out,  not much coming in other than Grundy

Are we getting anyone else

Uhhh have I missed something? Because we won’t be giving up pick 13 for Grundy.

Yep, we're getting Curnow, McKay and Walsh.

Time for a clean pair of socks - our dealing is starting to smell. We've lost a couple of real talents, we've cleared a few cobwebs that are overdue and rancid, we've not done a great deal to deepen the waters in which we might otherwise prance. The clock is ticking and we sit back at our peril. I know, patience is a virtue; it's just difficult to wait out of the action so long.

Looking forward to see what we do with our draft picks. Gold Coast have already stated they're keen on improving their draft position for next year. Maybe we could tempt them with pick 13, F1 and F2 for pick 5?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
