Lots of talent and Dees are well placed to pickup 3-4 youngsters to top up our talent pool. Whether we either upgrade by dealing to grab Reid or hold at #4 (and get access to any of Mckercher, Sanders, Duursma or Curtin), it’s going to be a good result.  My update on rankings:

1-10. Harley Reid, Jed Walter (suns academy) , Daniel Curtin, Coby Mckercher, Ryley Sanders, Zane Duursma, Nick Watson, Ethan Read (suns academy), Connor O’Sullivan , Darcy Wilson

11-20 Archer Reid, Mitchell Edwards (Freo nga) , Joel Freijah , Logan Morris, Ashton Moir , Jake Rogers (suns academy) , George Stevens, Nathan Philactides, Ollie Murphy, Riley Hardeman

21-30 Koen Sanchez, Nate Caddy, Koltyn Tholstrup, Harvey Johnston, Jordan Croft (bulldogs f/son) , Cooper Simpson, Archie Roberts, Will Dawson, Harry Demattia, Caiden Cleary (swans academy) ,

31-40. Clay Hall, Will McCabe (hawks F/son), Will Graham (Suns academy)  , Jack Delean, Will Lorenz, Kade DelaRue, Angus Hastie, Alex Holt, Luamon Luai, Michael Rudd.

41-50.  Will Patton, Jack Callinan, Koby Shipp, Caleb Windsor, Rye Penny, Billy Wilson, Aiden Odriscoll, Harvey Thomas (giants academy), Charlie Harrop, Heath Ollington.

If we make the Suns play work, we get either :

a. Reid or

b. 2 of the following: Daniel Curtin, Coby Mckercher, Ryley Sanders, Zane Duursma, Nick Watson, Connor O’Sullivan , Darcy Wilson

Not sure what our priorities but Curtin / McKercher pick up would be such a steal. If we pulled either of these scenarios off, we would be in the hunt at least for another 5 years.

Hoepfully we put everything on the table for the GCS first round pick.

Add Caddy to that impressive list. GC have a basket full of later picks and a 20% discount on bids in terms of points. They will trade their pick 5 or 6 but as they will not need loads more points they will look for a future 1st rounder plus say picks like we hold in the 2nd round (Freo's and or ours). It will depend on competition for the pick. Our expected future 1st rounder will be late ish.

We should go for it though.

Rumor has it that GWS will do a salary dump during the trade period. That will be interesting.

I meant which player, but thanks.

Haynes is 31, so not sure too many would be interested...

McKercher Highlights

I see a bit of Toby Green in him.

Running is exceptional, just keeps following up to stay involved.

Hits targets, great evasion, stands up in tackles.

A lot to like.

Clay Hall really intrigues me for some reason, is he a pure accumulator and a perenial handballer? or is there more to his game, gives me chad warner vibes as a smaller inside mid? is there a player there i think he could be a big bargain as a young mid we could target

I reckon he stays, no market for a 31yo in that mould when Doedee is a FA and the blues have Matchbank, McGovern types OOC, PA also has a log jam of rebounding types as do STK and WBD.

I reckon they offer him an extra 2 years and smooth it out for the security of a full career

Nicely done Normy, but no way does Moir go before Caddy!

Caddy had some really impressive games both at champs level and showed glimpses at VFL.

Moir was possibly the most disappointing of all players spoken about pre champs.

We're not getting Reid or McKercher. Move on.

Reid I agree is unlikely but not sure you can be definitive about any other player.

We will most likely be selecting one of Duursma, Curtain, Watson or McKercher. Sanders may be in the mix as well if North don't get him pre-listed. Who knows if someone will bolt into top 5 contention like Oliver or Bont. Seems reasonable to discuss prospects around the mark.

You're right. I have no idea. I should have stated that I don't think we will be on the board until probably pick 5, with plenty still to choose from. One thing no one has remotely considered is the potential for us to slide backwards ourselves to secure two late top-tens/early teens by splitting #4 and upgrading one of our seconds.

I had wondered if we would consider dropping back if it improved our second pick. Perhaps pick up two out of O’Sullivan, Duursma, Wilson, Caddy or Sanders.
Problem is that they’re possibly 4 players that are NGA or academy that could go in the top 10-12 so you don’t want to be too far back.
GWS currently have picks 6&11 and probably the only team that could make it work.

Mary Fowler rocketing up the draft boards. Midfielder. Sublime skills. Beautiful left foot delivery. Courage under pressure.  What a star !!!!

She is so good to watch. Think she will be a top 5-10 world player in no time.

That's definitely an option and we've shown we're not afraid to slide back in the draft previously. All depends how JT and co see the draft pool.

From what I've read and listened to, this draft has a bit of a drop off after the first 6-8 players (GCs Walter and Read included). Makes me think we'll take pick 4 or 5 to the draft and perhaps try and upgrade our next pick or even invest in next year's draft.

Another factor is how many players we will take with list spot availability, wouldn't surprise if we only took 2 kids and upgrade D Turner.

McKercher Highlights

Looks like a blend of Sam Walsh and Luke Shuey in that clip. Very good runner and slick agility. On the smaller side for a modern midfielder and not an elite kick. He’s a good prospect but don’t believe he’ll be a superstar. Sanders on the other hand looks more rounded. Reid also looks to have far more scope in a variety of positions.

Think Mckercher will wind up at North with pick 3 if they get it for McKay…

If someone pays McKay enough money to warrant him being classified as a pick 3 compo they would have to be certified.

If Duursma keeps kicking 6 goals a game for the rest of the year he may end up a top 3 pick.

I'll be happy with any of Curtin, Watson, Duursma or McKercher assuming we don't get a look in at Reid.

I'm curious to see what we do with our natural first rounder. We will have hot competition for GCs pick, but can see perhaps GWS, Geelong or Carlton splitting their first rounders for multiple picks as well.

If West Coast take Reid then North will have to think long and hard about Curtain. If they believe he's not a flight risk then he's a must for their list profile in my view.

If North can pre-list Sanders then they may go McKercher to try and keep mates together and avoid a pull to the new Tassie team.

Think Watson would also suit them in the front half. They start becoming dangerous down there with Larkey, Zuurhar and a predicted moved of Sheezel to the attacking 50 next near where he excelled as a junior.

Having listened to a couple of interviews Sanders has done since winning the Larke medal he seems to be good friend with Sheezel. If they get access to him I can’t see them going for McKercher as well as they are already stacked with midfield talent.

I love this thread it’s a bit like Xmas there is such a great mix of talented kids available this draft that would meet our ongoing needs, I for one will be disappointed if we don’t fill a couple of holes in our squad. iE tall midfielder, tall defender, one other and pup. One of the things that I have really noticed with North, Crows and Hawks is the number of talented talls that they have running around. We have excellent smalls and mids on the list but apart from Turner, Jefferson, Addams and Verrall we appear light on for tallish juniors running around.

Absolutely a fair call.

So much is going to come down to what West Coast do with pick 1 as well.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
